Is it possible to do good SEO on a SS site?

I'm helping my partner get her website up and running for her psychology business. I've bought the domain name through namecheap and am now looking at hosting options

She's not expecting heaps of traffic, realistically at her peak around <1,000 hits per day.

The goal: SEO since there is always lots of competition locally for healthcare services. Aiming for top or near top spot on Google search when people search terms like "psychologist [suburb]". Wanting minimal maintenance, easy editing if required.

The two options:

  1. Host and use Wordpress(org)
  2. Use Wordpress(com)/SquareSpace/Wix/other

She has no coding ability and basically wants to set it up with an aesthetically attractive theme and leave it.

I've been reading reviews and it sounds like if SEO is the goal then host +wordpress(org) is the best option, however, realistically I can't see her editing the page very easily so am thinking Wordpress(com) or SS may be better options. Can SS be optimised to get to the top of a google search is does it have almost no chance?

Thanks!
