Should I use canonical tags?

Hello,

I want to migrate my website, but I don't want to change the layout or any of the URLs to make sure I won't lose any backlinks or SEO. I want google to crawl the new website and know its the authority website and I don't want to have duplicate content.

Any thoughts?
