Hiding Table Headers and Penalty

I have a html table and the headers would severely detract from aesthetics. From a user point of view, it is obvious what the columns represent. But from a google point of view, the data could use headers.

So if I use headers in my code but set display to none or something, is that a potential penalty situation in Google’s eyes? Like, I want to give google hints on what the data is (especially for feature snippet potential) but I also don’t want to screw with usability.

Also before you ask, I’ve used css grid so my tables don’t look like tables.
