Hello fellow SEO fanatics, I'm looking to get answers about the correlation between internal and external link value. More specifically, does a large number of RELEVANT external links on a domain diminish the value of the same domain's internal links?
To give more background, I have a massive post on our blog (75DA,18UR) which serves as a tutorial/guide. Due to the post's nature, it hosts many external links to relevant sources that are not on our domain. Does having this large quantity (under 100 external links) of external links diminish the value of any internal links we put in the same article? The post gets us lots of traffic, so internal links there are important.
On a similar note, if we include in that same post an external link to a page we're competing against, how will Google look at this? The page is extremely relevant to the post, but we compete for the same keyword rankings. Is doing so a bad practice, or does it have virtually no effect? I've seen WikiHow do this many times, but can't find a correlation between Google rank dropping and doing this practice. Their domain just seems steady even when linking to competing pages.
Thanks in advance for everyone's responses, any information will be very helpful :)
