Few big pages or many small ones?

I'm new in SEO related stuff and I was wondering what is better, 40 big pages with a lot of content, or 100 small pages with just 350~ words?

I guess it depends of the kind of domain I wanna make, for example let's say I want to make a domain about healthy life related stuff.
