I'm in the process of redesigning our homepage. Right now the page contains around 1,200 words, but it's a lot of crap that no-one ever reads. I'm going to reduce the amount of words but make it nicer and easier on the eyes.
Is there a certain amount of words I should be aiming for here? I'm really worried this could hurt my SEO but the page sucks and need to be redesigned. I think it will look best with 600-700 words.
I'm planning to add links to each individual page with an icon and description of each page. Will adding links to each page improve the ranking for those pages? Right now they're linked from the homepage but only in a drop down menu.
