Updating Blog Posts Indefinitely

Hello, coming with a small question from a small blog owner with nobody else to ask

My domain is pretty strong for all things related to the country I live in. I updated (just changed the publish date) of an older article and now we are ranking 6th for a pretty ambitious search term (we're up with buzzfeed, allure, bustle). I noticed that all of the articles on the serp are conveniently published within the last 3-4 months, so I assume these guys are just updating their publish dates constantly.

Is updating the publish date consistently (like once a month) a solid way to maintain my rank, or will I eventually be punished by the Google gods for this? It honestly doesn't bring me that much traffic since it's 6th place (300 per week), but I would like to keep it there because it's really great content that I worked hard on.

Any answer + related information/tips would be very helpful! Thank you!
