Potential for conflicts between web accessibility and SEO

I'm curious to know whether anybody in this sub has ever come across issues where web accessibility best practice contradicts SEO best practice. If so, I'd love to hear more about the issue and which side you came down in favour of.

I've worked in SEO and web design for many years and have conducted my own research into web accessibility. I've always considered accessibility and SEO to work hand-in-hand and to complement each other perfectly. However, recently I had a chat with another SEO which caused me to consider the potential for SEOs to change website architecture in a way that is actually harmful to web accessibility.

I'd love to get a feel for the size of this issue, if it truly exists at all.
