Bought an expired domain with spammy backlinks - should I let go of it?

Hi! Was hoping to get some advice from this subreddit.

I recently bought a domain - and then belatedly found out it was an expired domain, with tons of spammy backlinks. The Ubersuggest tool says that it has 1,491 unique referring domains. Moz gives it a spam score of 42%.

I read that the Google Search Console allows you to disavow low-quality links. Would this be enough to get that domain on a clean slate, or should I just look for a new domain?
