Keyword position drop

A keyword for which my website was ranked at 43rd position suddenly dropped to a position below 100 in just 1 week. Can anyone tell me the possible reason for this drop? No issues with other focusing keywords.

Is it easy to rank a site through its domain only?

I just got a new domain. It’s a 6 keyword search string with minimal competition/searches per month. When you search it in Google, news websites appear that have very little to do with my keyword.

My question is, can I rank this website through having the exact search string in the domain and doing very little on-page SEO? I do have an SSL as well as 3 quality articles with my 6 keyword search string spread out within the articles nicely. Also it’s a .com domain with a few images containing the 6 string keyword in the alt text. Generated some authority back links to it as well.

Will it be easy to rank considering everything above? Also, how long typically to reach the 1st page?

Will reducing my website's landing pages negatively affect SEO for the pages remaining?

Say my company has 100 landing pages. The CTA on each of those pages is to submit a request. We don't want the requests coming in from 99 of those pages, but those 100 pages bring in a lot of traffic. If I remove the 99 pages, will it negatively impact traffic to the 1 remaining webpage? Let's assume people aren't coming to the other 99 pages and then making their way to the one relevant page.

Is it better to write a guest post and link to your website, or simply buy a link in an existing post?

For example:

Option 1: 1000 word guard post and with 1 dofollow link. They also request $25.

Option 2: $40 and a link back to your website in an existing post that was written some time ago.

I have always chosen option 2 but i'm wondering if this negatively affects rankings.

How to deal with multiple pages with very similar copy?

As per title really.

I’m thinking of targeting a series of long tails which would require largely homogenous content across multiple posts, each optimised slightly for a different model.

For example (not my niche) a phone case would have the same features/construction/pros/cons regardless, but I imagine for organic SEO purposes having a separate page for the iPhone 11, iPhone XR, Samsung Galaxy etc would be preferred.

Is there a “best practice” approach for this kind of content? Would Google penalise it for being too similar?

SEO Rewrite, Compile, Summarise any text

Hello guys,

I'm running a content generation platform and we just launched Textyze with a goal in mind to allow for an easier repurposing of texts like - summarisation of a bunch of texts at once - quick rewrite of old texts

This is still an early beta - you can register and use the platform for free - but I'd love to hear your feedback from SEO experts perspective.

How useful would it be for your work? What's missing that you'd like to have here?

Google Analytics VS Jetpack VS Siteground stats

I'm getting all sorts of different traffic reports for the same day using 3 different tools. Which one is the most accurate? For one of my site Google Analytics shows 30 unique visitors, Jetpack shows me 110 and Siteground (current host) shows 70 unique visitors. Some days it's worse as Google Analytics shows me like 11 visitors and Siteground traffic log show 170 unique visitors. Which is the most reliable/accurate? I'd like to think Google but their numbers don't add up. Any alternative? Is Yandex metric any good?

Links' blog structure for SEO

Hello,

First of all, I am quite new to SEO.

Recently I came across a few articles about internal linking. I work in a payment gateway company and maintain their blog, which I want to optimize for SEO. The blog already has quite the number of posts, but I think it needs improvement for internal linking, so I have decided to work on that.

However, our blog structure consists of a lot of "built-in" links in general. If I would create a post with no content, there would still be a lot of navigational links (like links to categories, links to recent posts, links to original page and etc.) in header, footer and side of the page. They repeat on every single blog post.

Now if I understand correctly, internal linking helps search engines to identify what the page is about. These links consist the majority of links in the page. Situation: lets say I would write a 500 words post about common fraud situations with online payments, link 2-3 times to fraud related blog posts or pages in the content, there would still be ~30 links in header/footer/sidebar/menu bar that are not related to the topic. They would link to recent posts, top performing pages of a website, main page and etc.

My question is: if in every single post, there are a lot of links that are not related to the topic of the page, does that make the page difficult to understand for search engines? Should I make the blog interface simpler, by remove these "navigational" links, and only leaving the menu bar for navigation?

Ranking Potential - An another worth noting metric for your SEO strategy

During your Keyword Research, you might have messed up with these questions - “what are the metrics I need to consider for choosing a right keyword?”, “What are the things other than keyword difficulty?”, and some more,..

I got you covered with another important metric called 'Ranking Potential'

With this metric, you can find the potential of your topic to outnumber the top ranking results.

How to find it,

📌 Type the topic of your content in Google and check if there is an “opportunity gap” for freshness, quality, authority, or relevance in the top three Google search results for your topic. Simply, find the things missed by them.

📌 Also, check if the sites in the top three Google search results are more “authoritative” than yours (i.e. have a higher domain authority).

📌 Then combine the opportunity gaps and authoritativeness like below:

Opportunity gap + no authoritative sites = High ranking potential Opportunity gap + authoritative sites = Medium ranking potential No opportunity gap + authoritative sites = Low ranking potential

High ranking potential means, you can outnumber the top results easily. The high ranking potential topics are your low hanging fruits.

Your thoughts?

Writing for sources like WikiHow will definitely increase credibility(to insert in your bio and add to emails) for your brand and trust. Digital Agencies: how do you attract new clients in SEO?

So basically we're thinking about optimizing our acquisition/sales funnel. We've tried cold calling for a month. During we used the Traffic Score from SEMrush + current rankings to inform companies about there current visibility and opportunities. (the calls were mostly targeted at selling our SEO services)

This strategy didn't bring us new clients. What strategies do you use to attract new clients, preferably SEO or PPC? Does calling still work? Should we invest in hiring a sales person who is fully focused on calling companies or should we invest in other strategies?

How do I (and should I) become an SEO consultant

So, I've been doing SEO for nearly 20 years now, but only for myself. I own a bunch of websites that pull in around 2.5 million uniques pcm and generate a six figure income every year. I have done this single handed. At the moment most of my sites look after themselves, with fairly regular, predictable input.

Given that I can put my money where my mouth is in terms of SEO I'd like to start doing some work for other people. I have done this in the past, but nothing structured, and it's been more for my benefit as I enjoy the challenge.

My question is what do I need to do to transfer my (often intuitive) skills and knowledge to a marketable prospect? My expertise is mainly in organic traffic and on-page / site structure. I understand link-building, but am more of a fan of create quality content and the rest will happen...

As a start I would be hoping to target websites with problems that can be fixed, rather than building on already successful sites, i.e. low hanging fruit.

I guess the other part of the question is what would I need in terms of tools and what do small / mid-sized clients expect to see in terms of process / approach?

Sorry if this is all a bit vague, but any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Using 2 long tail keywords in one Youtube video title. Pros and cons?

When uploading a new video I try to optimize my SEO to have more chance of the video ranking well. I usually use 2 long tail keywords in my title just to try to rank on both of them. This gives me the feeling if one doesn't work maybe the other will. I am wondering if this can backfire and if it's much better to just try to rank for 1 long tail keyword.

For example when I make a video about building an aquascape (aquarium) I would use something like:

My Hardscape Aquarium setup and nano aquascape tutorial

long tail keyword 1: Hardscape Aquarium setup

long tail keyword 2: nano aquascape tutorial

Whats your opinion? Nothing wrong with using 2 long tail keywords or definitely stick to 1?

Is Targeting a Specific Page Worth It?

Curious to hear your thoughts on this scenario.

Many of the pages ranking on the first page for a keyword are high DA/high PA with lots of quality backlinks. Let's say they make up 6 out of the top 10 results.

The other 4 are low to medium DA and PA with 1-10 backlinks. Let's say they're ranking in spots 5-8.

Is it worth analyzing those 4 and determining how to improve upon their content to get on the first page of SERP's for a really relevant keyword (even though you wouldn't be in the top spots)?

Would you prefer that approach over optimizing for a fairly relevant keyword that you could rank higher up in search results?

starting my first local SEO client. any advice?

Hello,

I usually do SEO on a national scale for businesses without brick and mortar locations. This new client that I am getting is for a local brick and mortar dentist. Any advice you may have for me on how local brick and mortar and national SEO differ would be appreciated. Here are some specific questions:

- GMB: I know this is huge for local brick and mortar businesses (its how i find people, i never click the regular serps) - What are the primary ranking factors for GMB? do i even need to bother with getting the "first organic hit" in the non-GMB results? How important are the regular SERPS?

- tools - I looked up Brightlocal for tracking GMB seems to be legit. anyone ever use it? Any other tools for tracking local SEO? I currently use MOZ and Ahrefs for my national clients

- on-page SEO and money keyword - so I am thinking my first step for organic hits (non GMB) will be to create a pages "money-keyword-location-1, money-keyword-location-2". Is this a good strategy? Again, not sure how important the non-GMB serps even are

-Content/blogging/links - I definitely want to start a blog page to get links. maybe even rank nationally for long tailed keywords to encourage links and authority. Should i put the doctor as the author for blog posts? She offered to help me write some of the posts. I think having her picture on there as an author could be great

Anyways, thanks for reading. really just looking for advice on how to transfer my national SEO skillz to local and how to manage GMB/its weight vs. regular SERPS

How to scale professionally as an SEO and grow my business?

Hi everyone!

I hope all of you are safe and doing well. I have been doing SEO for 3-5 years now. Although the first few years were just hit-and-trial, I have been tasting success now with my work.

The issue now is I am a single freelancer working from home. I do not have any team members and I do not want to involve someone into business for now at least nor I have found any good SEO frankly who can work under me.

The problem is I am although getting enough clients, I am having a hard time managing things. Like few clients are with me at skype, some at hangouts, some though Fiverr. With all these, I do like 100-300$/month packages where I offer SEO and a few other services related to maintenance.

But I am having a really hard time managing things now. Like there is no systematic approach I can found, no dedicated hours of work to manage?

Is there any experienced SEO freelancer who can tell me how you manage multiple projects? How many hours a week you work on one single project? How many max. projects you take each month?

Will it be worthy for me to look on just more high-paying clients and lay off the others?

Content creation for new website.

Good morning all.

I trust all is well.

A quick one for you all... (I feel silly for this) I totally suck at content creation. I'm in the midst of building a new website for a specific in demand niche, like all of us. However, my writing skills / creation is crap to put it bluntly. For instance, home page content, or the "About Us" page... Of course I know that myself, however, I lack the flare or good use of wording... excellent at maths, crap at english. I'm looking to outsource that and if any of you do such a thing and if so, what should I be asking and looking out for.

Thanks :)

Keep safe!

How Long for Basic SEO

General question on timings for SEO - I have a 10-20 page brochure and want a basic SEO update e.g. add and update Yoast/Rank Math do basics like titles, images, alt tags, snippet/schema markup etc

1) How long would you expect this to take for the first time.

2) If you repeat for a similar website/services in a different city, how long for the second time?

Is it necessary to have a blog in order to rank high on Google?

Most of the SEO advice I see is about how to get blog posts to rank higher. But the website I am currently working with is not a blog, and does not have much text content. The website is more of a tool for people interested in nutrition and the content is in form of data visualizations.

If I would add a blog part for the website, it would be just to rank higher in search engines, and it would steer the site away from its original purpose. However, if that would be the only way to rank higher, I guess I don't have much of a choice.

So my question is, do I need to have a blog part on the website in order to rank high in search engines or can this be done without a blog? If it can be done without a blog, how would one go about doing that?

Thanks in advance :)

Google is about Backlinks while Bing is the real Search Engine?

Hi, everyone.

I tend to try things out and share the results found here which I believe can help us.

So, here is it.

There is a keyword that covers geographical searches.

Let's say, "Top Starbucks Alternatives".

For a geographical search, one can write on "the Top Starbucks Alternatives in Canada".

Having done this myself - the geographical version, I have discovered that Google prioritises pages with lots of backlinks to the main targeted keyword.

Meanwhile, I mistakenly did the same search on Yahoo powered by Bing and discovered that I rank #1 cause the article is well optimised while on Google I rank #5 - the first is not even a search for my geographical area - but they've got a lot of backlinks.

As awkward as it sounds. I recently saw a page that ranked #4 for only a non-youtube video with a disclaimer text while the real page articles are below - all because they've built backlinks to it.

It seems Google can easily be tricked or are they just favouring only Backlinked content without taking cognisance of the real value to the audiences...

It's just bad that Bing does not get all the hypes Google does.

locationbusinessname.com or businessname.com/location for local SEO?

Hi! I'm new to SEO but have been learning a lot lately. I'm trying to decide which approach to take when I almost exclusively only care about local SEO. I will have similar sites for multiple cities but they will each have about 10 pages or so of content (some local related and some more general). The customers coming to the site will only care about the site for their location, so i'm thinking i'll just create domains for each location i'm in rather than worrying about branding the concept more generally/nationally.

Does anyone know which approach will help me better rank locally?

Thanks!

Which would rank faster for small search queerie- Medium or Google Sites?

Medium and Google sites are both relatively good for faster traffic because Medium has a God-like DA and Google wants to promote... google(and google has the God DA). I am a pretty good writer, and I write 3,000+ quality content with ease, so if I do make an article for Google Sites or Medium, quality isn't a problem.

I probably won't use Medium or Google Sites ever, because I have my own blog, but I would just like to know which would rank faster for small-medium size search queries.

Best way to create SVG / Interactive / Map that is readable by search engines?

I'm looking to build a map which lists the locations I offer my services in with the exact services I offer in X locations.
I'm thinking of building a map that once you hover over provides specific information about that location, for example, if I owned a locksmith service it might read something like this when you hover over:
New york: services offered - key cutting, garage key doors, picklocking
Washington: services offered - keyrings, watchsmith

I only want this to be visible when the locations are hovered over, but to ensure Google can see these keywords I need them to be visible somehow in the back end or with functional JS, does anyone have any advice/examples on how best to achieve this?

Have you had a Duplicate field FAQPage issue and how did you resolve it?

I am having issues solving this one. I saw some URLs in Google Search Console (GSC) FAQ issues under Duplicate field "FAQPage" When I tested those URLs on Structured Data Testing Tool I did not receive the same error However when I tested on Rich Results Test(RRT), I saw the same Duplicate field issue Then when I copied the rendered HTML code from RRT/GSC and pasted it in SDTT and RRT - I could see the duplicate field issue - but not when I copy paste the source code from the URL itself

Is it impossible to rank on top of the local SERP without Listicles?

My research shows that it is almost always that the top result for a local search query (e.g. best dentists in Manhattan, recommended restaurant in Rome, plumbers in Oregon) show a listicle with top 5-10 different suppliers. Usually this is a Tripadvisor, Yelp, booking site. Is it possible to rank in top 3 without talking about the competitors?

Google not surfacing multiple clients' new pages in search, despite first page positions in Bing and DuckDuckGo.

I'm a content manager at an inbound marketing agency. I regularly publish blog posts to our clients' sites and follow best practices with regard to using Google Search Console to point Google toward new posts.

Two of our client sites have incredible success in search, but for a few weeks now, Google appears to be throttling any newly published posts that would have otherwise ranked for high-volume keyword phrases despite Bing and DuckDuckGo ranking them #1-#3 within days for the same queries. Search Console confirms they've been indexed, and they do show up in SERP for direct title queries, but anything short of searching for exact titles renders them invisible.

I'm just perplexed that this is happening at the same time for multiple clients with wholly different domains—and the fact that other search engines are ranking them where I'd expect them to land leads me to believe it's not a technical problem within the CMS or any other property I'm in control of.

Has anyone experienced this or something similar? Is there any evidence that Google recently "slowed" the inclusion of fresh content on first-page SERPS for higher volume search keyword phrases? Any thoughts or advice is welcome!

How do you minimize the number of affiliate links in your posts?

I have heard that google dislikes too many affiliate links in a posts and it has a negative impact on a websites SEO. For this reason I try to keep the number of affiliate links as low as possible. What I see most people doing is that they have at least two affiliate links for each product. One link in the Image that is taken from amazon and the second one in the call to action button( click here to see price on amazon). Since I want to keep only one link per product, I don't add the call to action button in my posts. Instead I just write this below product image "click on the image to see price on amazon" Now I have 2 questions here 1)is this a good strategy or not?will this affect my CTR? 2)is it possible to add images from amazon site stripe in such a way that they don't contain the affiliate link? If that's possible, I'll then be able to add the call to action buttons into my posts without increasing the affiliate links. Thanks in advance for your answers

General XML Sitemap question

My website is currently submitted and indexed by google search console. However, I'm confused at how my blog posts are being indexed. For example, when I click on my submitted sitemap and then the sitemap for my blog posts, there is only 1 discovered URL even though I have 8 published posts. However, when I open the blog post sitemap, it accurately lists all of my published posts. Does this mean all of my posts are indexed or should the number of discovered URL's reflect the amount of blog posts I have? The XML Sitemap was created by Yoast.

Backlinks to money pages or to blog posts?

Hi everyone,

I have been running an e-commerce for some time now and I really didn't make much of an effort in terms sof SEO till recently.

In the last months I have redone website, made responsive (yes probably should have done 5 years before), rewritten old posts and added own slides and images, researched keywords and hired a seo writer publishing biweekly to try to get visits for those new keywords with long rich helpful posts. All pages and posts are in same domain. Money pages bootstrap, blogposts WP.

Some posts are doing great and some arent. Most of new SEO articles are linking to some of our money pages with rich anchor texts and I am also going to set more click to action stuff to increase conversions. Alltogether I have increased clicks quite a lot but, money keywords are performing same as usual and I am starting to doubt about the strategy for backlinks.

Some of these keywords have thousands of searches while my money keywords are a couple of hundred.

My goal and question regarding backlinks for SEO: (not regarding conversions but only ranking): If I want to increase those money keywords should I try to make an effort in backlinks in those nicely written posts that link to money kw pages or should I try to link straight to my money pages?

Experience with completing SEO for two sites in the same industry

Hey guys,

Some context around the situation. I built a website for a landscaper in my local area, who referred me to another landscaper who is interested in having their site built by me as well.

The first landscaper has agreed for me to complete some SEO services for him for a monthly retainer fee and my intention is to offer the same service to the second landscaper once I've completed his site.

I feel like it would be foolish of me to not provide any additional service (after the site is built), or turn work down so I was wondering if there's any healthy way I can perform SEO for the both of them without creating too much competition between the two sites, but rank them well.

What is some good advice on how to proceed? Both of them offer similar services and operate in similar areas, but the second landscaper offers a few other services the first does not.

Any help would be appreciated.

How to optimize for Google Discover?

Hi Everyone,

I have been a professional marketeer/SEO/Content writer for almost 5 years now. Everything is going great and I have learned and developed many things over the years. And obviously, like many others of you here, I love to learn more new things everyday.

Yesterday, one of my dear friends (who runs a small financial blog that hasn't really gotten any major traffic yet) suddenly received a HUGE spike of traffic. Usually they bring in about 300-700 people, both new and recurring traffic, but yesterday they received 20K on one article in a day! Furthermore, it was published the day before yesterday!

When checking analytics, we couldn't figure out the origin of the traffic. We could only see that there was a huge spike in direct traffic. After looking at all the metrics, we were pretty much certain they were the victim of a spam bot.

This morning, analytics updated and we could retrace the traffic from Google discover.

I was amazed by this neat little occurrence. I had never seen it happen to my own website and I do write blogs that gain a lot of traffic.

So obviously my question is, how can we optimize for Google Discover?

Are there any pointers we should look at? I've been reading up on some blogs about it, but the information I find there doesn't really go any farther than very basic SEO principles.

I'm very curious what you guys think about this. I'd love to hear from you.

Thanks and keep on battling the Goog's! :)

Found out that only Copyscape & Quetext are the only 2 legitimate Freemium Plagiarism Checking tools out there.

And other popular ones like Duplichecker & SmallSEOTools plagiarism checker may be using the same API/technology to check for plagiarism because the results are 100% similar and not accurate enough.

Local SEO for a business that provides services both locally and country-wide

One of our clients provides nation-wide services (delivered printed goods) and they have a home base where they manufacture and meet with B2B clients etc.

We rank really well at a national level for most of our target product and service keyword themes in the organic results but for local keywords, our GMB listing is nowhere to be seen.

As the snack pack takes up quite a bit of real estate in SERP, would it be worth it to try and improve the position of the GMB listing for local keywords for the city they are based in or should we just leave the listing there as asset branding searches?

Cheers in advance

Keyword advice for freelance web designer living abroad?

As I learn more about SEO and targeting keywords, I get the impression that as a freelance web designer, one of the strategies I should aim for is to rank for local keyword phrases. The issue is that I have is that I'm an English speaker living in France for the foreseeable future, and don't really have the language capabilities to run my business in French.

And so then I think about niching down and creating content, but maybe I'm thinking wrongly how to do this. I tend to call my audience "educators" thinking that I like to work with small businesses (instructors/coaches) focused on education, health, well-being and then I work with a handful of private schools to build their sites or side projects. Any advice on how I should try to think of niching down to something that is more specific and that I can actually have a good chance to creating some nice SEO campaigns/long-term actions?

increase ranking with 301 redirect

I want to redirect my old domain to a new domain using 301 redirect for 1 month to increase the ranking of the new domain and bypass the Google sandbox.

But the question is after a month, when I return the old domain to my website, will it lose rank in Google or work as before WITHOUT side effect?

Help me creat a back link within a day!

Hello people I have this customer he wanted me to generate and audit report suggestions and 2 high quality links for traffic. I am done with other two things but the problem with his site is he has no blog corner so I cannot create a content for him and link into other social media forum plus I tried to get traffic from reditt and quora but reditt banned me from the community. I didn't spam like I just gave the advice to seek help from that website. Anyways can someone guide how can I generate a quality link in a day because all the other techniques like blogging, survey, infographic are time taking plus as I said he doesn't have the blog corner to share all this stuff. Plus guide me if I make an infographic for his site how can I get it's back link. I am a beginner and that's my first order. I hope someone can advice me without criticism.

Migrating website to a new platform (301,404) Issues. Help much appreciated!

Hello,

We migrated our website to a new platform, I have never done anything like this before.

I guess they rushed with publishing the website, and now there are a lot of issues.

I crawled the website in MOZ and there are a ton of things that need to fixed.

The new website has pages that do not currently exist in the new one but when people search for them in google they come up. I am doing 301 redirects for the pages that we currently have but there are a lot of things that need to be fixed.

For example if someone searches for "Whitman Black tables" there are 2 different titles that take the user to the same page, and I'm afraid google will penalize us for this.

What should be priority, I would hate to lose any SEO, I'm trying my best but I'm getting anxiety at this point.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

How difficult are forums to complete with?

There is a niche where top results are forums and irrelevant/vague blog posts.

I want to create a website that will provide useful information and spare you hours of searching for relevant info.

I've heard forums usually rank lower due to being user-generated content.

How true is that?

Have a great day!
