A client of mine has a .pdf that's ranking #1 for a keyword with high traffic compared to the other pages on the site and I decided to gate it to get some leads. I've added some clickable CTA's to the .pdf as there were none and it's gotten us some leads. I'm guessing that gating the page will result in even more leads, but I'm worried I won't be able to rank a new page to #1 for a while, especially since the number of keywords will be considerably less as it's gated.
My plan would be to create the gated page, 301 the .pdf and upload the .pdf to a new URL and have it deindexed. Is there anything else I can do to successfully convert the content to a gated page without losing search traffic?
