I've changed domains a long time ago but only just realized that the "parked" domain setting isn't equivalent to a real 301 redirection...
I've tried looking into some different ways of setting up 301 redirects without having two different wordpress installations, but I can't figure it out.
If i try and edit the .htaccess, I end up creating a redirection loop because the code acts on both domains (since they're pointing to the same wordpress install)
I also looked into using the "redirection" plugin, but it seems that setting up a site-alias is complicated on the server-side and it's not something that siteground can help me with
then there's the possibility of finding some free hosting (or simply paying for a multi-site package with siteground) and pointing the old domain to a new wordpress install from which I'll be able to edit the .htaccess separately...
So my question is: Do I really need a separate "site" complete with a separate .htaccess to be able to correctly do 301 redirects to my new domains?
Does anyone know of a reasonably stable "free" hosting provider to which I can point the old domain and throw a .htaccess file?
Or am I complicating things?
