Still fairly new at this.
Was just researching backlinks of one of my competitor website in my niche and I came across an interesting find.
A governmental/community/organization came out as the strongest domain linking to my competitor. I’m very familiar with this organization personally, but it doesn’t really directly relate to my niche at all.
Here’s where it gets interesting. When I went to the organization’s website, it was a list of their community partners. Maybe about 50 or so. Most of them are colleges, schools, foundations and non-profits. Big names. Big colleges. Ole miss, for example. However. Tucked in these 50 partners was THREE of my obscure niche competitor websites.
Turns out you can pay $150-600 to become a community partner with this organization and get your name on the list for a year, then you have to renew each year.
I don’t know if one of my competitors did this and the others just followed suit after doing their research but I just found it interesting.
I’m almost debating doing the same mainly because I actually believe in this organization and I wouldn’t mind donating my own money to them.
Is this a common type of thing?
