I might be alone on this, so sorry if that's the case.
I've been in this industry for the last five years. Sure, not as many as some of you. I started off with blogs and have moved on to client work.
There are many different aspects about this industry I don't care for. Some include:
- The reliance on a single company: Google.
- The non-mutual benefits of our outreach campaigns. Let's be real, we're the only ones benefiting from having our link put into their content.
- Backlinks, backlinks, backlinks. It's all people care about and it seems that most SEO firms bring their clients such piss poor links even if they are "high DA"
- The woo woo. Whether you're black or white hat, there's so much non-data-backed, non-Google-backed assumptions. There's also a lot of vagueness. Take a look at many of the explanations about how local business citations are effective for example. A lot of unclear answers saying "ciTaTioNS mAkE YoUr SEOs mOrE beTTerER"
Let me know what you think. What parts of this industry do you love - what do you hate. This is just a 10:44pm rant.
