SEO newbie here. We have a brand new website for which we're currently generating SEO optimized content. But at this point, we essentially have no backlinks to our site.
We see there are "backlink building" services out there on freelance websites like Fiverr, and many are reasonably priced. I've read that using these types of services can be a bad idea, as Google could see this as a "Black Hat" tactic and punish our rankings for it.
But on the other hand, many of these services have thousands of positive reviews and the sellers are rated very highly. So surely if they're hurting their customer's rankings there would be plenty of negative feedback and low ratings. Many also advertise as "White Hat Manual Link Building".
Are these types of services legit? Would you use them? If so, how would distinguish which are likely really using "White Hat" tactics?
