News website is stealing articles from my website

I keep my blog updated every week with huge articles related to my niche. It's a lot of work and it takes me hours.

Today I have realized that a very popular news site (think the equivalent of the NewYorkTimes in my city) has been literally copy pasting these articles verbatim, and has not given me any credit or backlinks.

I was blown away by this and have emailed them asking TF they're playing at.

I've read all the blogs and I understand the general consensus is "the website that copies you will suffer from an SEO standpoint", but I'm finding this isn't the case. When I Google the titles of these articles all I can see is their website as the first result. My website is buried behind pages and pages of results.

What gives? What can I do about this? Some of the articles were published over a year ago and have 100% already been indexed, so why is Google punishing me for this? It seems like the news site has so much authority and clout that they can just walk all over me.
