Hello all,
About a month back or so I was approached by a popular local garden supply chain to replace their ecommerce/informational site since they were having tons of issues with it and were unable to salvage the existing site. This was during the the COVID lockdown so their website was a primary source of income for the chain and they needed a solution ASAP.
I was able to build a brand new site for them in about a week to get their income flowing again as soon as possible and they were truly appreciative, so much so they told me I should place a "Created By" link in the footer next to the copyright.
The website gets a considerable amount of traffic for a local business because they have thousands of pages of quality information related to gardening and lawn care. They currently are getting around 40,000 hits per month.
My question is, what are the best practices around placing such a link? Will Google consider it spammy because of the pure number of links (around 6,000) it creates to my homepage? Should I place it with a rel='nofollow'?
I'd prefer to keep the link for the sake of exposure in my local market, I just want to make sure I won't see any penalties from search engines for it.
As always, any information here is greatly appreciated!
