Why is Bing so Bad? How Does it Still Exist?

I have a page on my site that ranks #1 on Google for a particular query - "xxx yyy". I've spent time and effort to ensure that the page is genuinely the best on the Internet for that particular query. It's not bragging, just a fact. And Google rewards it with the first position in every country, a featured snippet etc.

Today, I searched for the same query in Bing. I was astounded to see:

  1. My site is in the middle of page three, and
  2. It's not even the right page!

So I can accept that it's sour grapes if others are ahead of me. But they even got the page wrong! How bad do you have to be to ignore the highest ranking page on a site, with the exact keyword match, all the SEO geared towards that particular query, much more relevant stuff, a table of contents, SEO optimized images etc?

I mean a child can look at my #1 ranking page on Google and say "This is the best page". How do you rank the wrong page on a site - and put it on page 3 when Google ranks it consistently at #1?

I've read so many people who say "Bing is a perfectly acceptable replacement for Google". No, it's not! Most likely you get acceptable results with Bing, but you never see what you could have gotten with Google. Sure, when someone searches on Bing for "xxx yyy", they'll get some results that they're happy with, but they'll never see my page. And they'll never even know that it exists.

So these people might say "Yeah, Bing is good". But unless they've seen my result as #1 on Google, they're completely ignorant of the best actual result.

In a competitive marketplace, how can Bing be so incompetent and still survive? I mean, ok they can be fancy with UI, distinguish themselves in image or video search of whatever. But if your actual search results are shit, what's the point?

Note: The only reason I can imagine for this poor performance, is that the other page on my site has a backlink, whereas the best page for the query does not have a backlink. But it's objectively the worse result.
