Duplicate content across domains: how to proceed in this situation?

Hi,

I run an online travel agency. Problem is, we actually have two websites of equal importance: One for girls, and one for guys (i don't want to go into details, but yes, it makes sense to have separate websites in our case). For each page that had similar content between both websites (for example, the page "about us") we made sure to reformulate everything from one website to another to avoid duplicate content.

The websites are not new (online for 7 years), but i never took the time to launch a blog (an error, i know). I'm finally getting down to it, and in order to boost both websites, we will launch two blogs, one on each site.

Some posts will be specific to girls or to guys, but a lot of posts could be posted on either. My idea is then to post on one, and a bit later on the other, reformulating everything. But even if I do that, this is still, I think, "content that is deliberately duplicated across domains in an attempt to manipulate search engine rankings", so:

  • Do you think I should avoid this and just post the article on either site and not on the other? Annoying, cause I'll need to find many more article ideas. Plus some articles are very relevant / necessary on both blogs.
  • Do you think I should post on both websites, indicating to Google that one of the URL shouldn't be indexed? If so, how to proceed? It's definitely easier than reformulating, but I'd lose a lot of the SEO potential (instead of 2 articles per month, google will only index 1).
  • If you think reformulating is fine, that if we do it well enough it will never be flagged by Google, i would like to know more specifically the minimum we should do to "do it well enough". I say "the minimum" because even though I want to avoid possible problems, I'd also like to avoid being too zealous: the blog is way less important that our main pages and reformulating or rewriting from scratch is annoying, even more than writing it the first time.
    - Could reformulating each sentence be enough, or do we need to re-do the entire paragraphs? The entire article?
    - Does changing the structure of the article (order of paragraphs) help?
    - Would you recommend posting both "similar" articles at the same time or with a few months one after the other?
    - I suppose changing the title of the post is extremely important? What else shall i take into account?

Thank you in advance and sorry for the long post!
