can you outrank retailers like amazon results or brands websites on the search results? Are they strong competitors?

Hello, I have this question and I haven't found the answer on google, so I thought you guys maybe had the answer.

Say I want to write an article about best hair brushes, and the google results are
1) amazon hair brushes results

2)Macys hair brushes

3)Etsy. com best selling hair brushes

4) pinterest best hair brushes pins

5) hairbrushesbrand.com

What do you think? do you think it will be easy to outrank them or are they competitive websites? At first I thought that it will be, but then everytime I google "best (product)" I get the same -ish results ebay/pinterest/retailers/etc.

Thanks for the help and sorry if it's a super noob questions.

Buying websites and changing content to rank quicker?

I want to start a shopify site in a specific niche for specific keywords and to rank well but I think starting from scratch will take a few months to start ranking well based on research.

Is it a better idea to buy a small existing site (1-3 years with some backlinks) in a relevant niche then switch the content to my shopify content, or just register a new domain and start link building from scratch?

I want to save time.

Please share your experience of getting your first back link!

Hey everyone, as people start out building websites from scratch in their niche, and being new in this pursuit, they read a lot about back-links, link building, on how google considers back links as "trust factor" and it plays a vital role in reaching the first page of SERP, while they glean over heaps of articles about SEO, it's not easy to see the effects of back links on their SEO immediately, sometimes, they are not even sure if people would link their content.

So sharing your experience of getting your first back link, how you earned it and how it made an impact on your ranking with real [ near estimate ] numbers would be something newbies would appreciate!

Thanks!

Questions about SEO for translating my English content into other languages / multi-language SEO migration

Hi everyone,

I run a blog which has grown and now ranks fairly well in English language keywords across the USA, UK, Canada, etc, and I'm considering having the content translated into other major languages to expand further. However, I've never done anything like this before, and understand that it is a big deal architecture-wise, and can go badly wrong if not done properly.

I was hoping someone could help with the following queries:

- What have you found to be the best way to change from a single language to multiple language site, architecture-wise? If you've done this for a Wordpress site, how did you do it?

- Is there a best-practice way of telling Google that this version of content is the same as the different language pages in other areas of the site? E.g. like a canonical link for similar pages.

- Can you use your DA to rank instantly / much quicker in other languages / geographies than you would if you had started all over again? I'm less interested in translating the content if I am likely to have to regain Google's trust over 12-24 months again, and wondering if you get put straight back up there if you're trusted in English.

- If you only have a few pieces of your most popular content translated, is that enough to still rank highly for those pieces of content? It is said that you need to be uploading, improving, editing content often to be seen as fresh and relevant, but could I just go 80/20 Pareto and have a few of the best pieces translated, and still get most of the results by ranking these most popular pages in Spanish, German, etc? Or do you have to commit to publishing masses of content to rank highly?

if there's anything I'm clearly missing out that you think might help, please also let me know!

Thank you for all your help!

Idea for Link buying and selling

Hello ,

Recently while trying to build links for my site and idea came through . I want your opinion on whether its workable or not ? Its just a initial thought but all opinions are welcomed .

Idea : Wordpress plugin for links buying and selling .

Everyone is looking to make money . Content writers are looking to eventually make money either by content writing for specific niche or selling links .

Wordpress runs 37% of all websites . So if we make a plugin where content is scanned and suggest the writer that for a particular keyword some other user is looking to spend money and buy link , it will be a win win situation . Website owner will be able to see the page before the linking and money can be exchanged and the link becomes live .

Pros :

Easier to connect link buyers and website owners .

Content scanned and give suggestion to website owner that a buyer wants its link to be placed .

Link opportunities .

Content writer does not have to go and search for a buyer , thus simplifying the process .

Cons :

Google does not prefer users buying links , but they are being sold and bought anyway . Also the plugin does not leave any traces in front end for google to verify that a transaction has been made .

Google must punish Paid Services who claim that they are free and shows in first results

The number one priority for Google is the relevance of search results for its users. So the services who target the 'Free ....' keywords but after completing 15 min task they ask users for payment, must be all punished since they are ruining the user experience of Google users.

New Pages Not Ranking

I'm a marketing executive with a lot of SEO experience, however I'm having a problem which I'm hoping someone can give me some insight into!

I recently added several new pages that hit our keyword followed by a location, i.e., services in Sheffield rather than just, services. The issue is that even after now 5 weeks, there's not one single impression. They're all indexed and working fine, but nothing, which just does not make sense.

Anyone have any suggestions where I could be going wrong?

Impressions/Clicks not consistent with Position

Hi all,

I am having a lot of difficulty with impressions/clicks for my site. For the past month or so impressions have been a paltry 15-25/day with clicks between 5-10/day across the whole site.

I have been doing a bit of a deep dive and, as an example, 1 post in particular had 5 impressions and 1 click this past week, despite ranking on the 1st page for its targeted keywords the entire time (according to GSC).

Now, contrast this with the first week of October and this same post managed 1570 impressions and 31 clicks, so I know the keywords its ranking for pull in traffic.

Has anyone experienced anything similar? I know things have been a bit weird in the SERP of late, but I think its more likely an issue on my end rather than Google's.

I've checked all the usual things like robots.txt, manual actions etc and Google appears to be able to crawl my site just fine and I have no penalties or issues in GSC's eyes.

I would love to hear any insight anyone may have.

Is there any value in changing the canonical URL set in directories?

Just a quick one, which I suppose will be me being overzealous but figured I'd ask anyway.

Clients have been listing their website on directories, but aren't listing their website as the canonical version and are using 'www . domain . com' instead.

Is there any real value in me fixing up these canonicalisation issues? I'm not exactly aware of the way Google treats using the wrong canonical in anchor texts (which are largely garbage on directories anyway).

Spammy Links - Advice Please.

I have a 5 year old site. It's a local bricks and mortor store. We added a small shop to the site a couple of years ago under a subdomain (shop.website.com).

anyway, never really thought anything of it. the site is wordpress and the shop uses woocommerce. i used to notice a few spammy comments on products but used to ignore it. I was under the belief that Wordpress's spam protection would be enough. The site already has comments disabled so I fail to see how a sit can spam if it can't post anywhere...

So anyway, fast forward to today and I check backlinks on Moz and Ahrefs. I never do this normally, this is maybe the second time in 5 years. I noticed a lot of the spammy links were comments on products within the woocommerce shop!!

WTF, again. How can these spammers be auto commenting on products and negative SEOing my site when comments are disabled?

Reasons why a niche company needs SEO

I worked with a niche company in last year for a little whole. I helped them build the basic building blocks of SEO content creation and all that. When I left, they hired a content creator who doesn't believe in SEO. The content creator said she never experienced online publishing that's why she's skeptical about it. Also, she doesn't trust algorithms. I just learned that they're almost completely neglecting SEO and basically just winging it in the content department. It's an online store that sells art and they are asking me reasons why they should focus on SEO when their competition are huge companies with an already established domain and a whole department that focuses on content creation.

Of course, I gave them all I know: helps build organic traffic, returning visitors, conversion rates etc. Please help me explain it to them. They're very traditional and I don't know if I am in the position to give them a whole seminar about it when they're not even paying me anymore. I just love the brand and believe there's so much potential to it.

Will Transferring domain to another hosting site hurt google ranking?

First of all, I apologize for my lack of knowledge of sites.

I am planning to launch a niche site. After searching for a while, I found a local seller offering a package (domain+hosting+ssl) that will serve my need for the time being. Though I am not sure their service will stay the same in the future. So if I transfer my(same site) domain and hosting to a renowned company like NameCheap or BlueHost, will it affect my ranking?

If money was not an issue I would go for NameCheap from the beginning but I am in a bad situation right now. I have to make work what I have now.

Will appreciate your expert opinion on this.

Where to start: SEO or layout first for a new website?

Hi there - sorry for the totally newb question that's about to follow.

I recently started working as a content writer/marketer for a company that creates business software (with automation) for other companies - similar to Zoho or OutSystems. We currently have a website up that (according to my boss) is meant to appeal to both potential clients (i.e. business owners) and to potential partners (developers who want to publish an app in our app marketplace). So theoretically, our site should have both tech and business-friendly writing - but right now, it leans heavily towards the tech stuff and honestly, I think any business owner who didn't start out in IT wouldn't understand at least 60% of our current site.

After talking to my boss, I've gotten approval to change as much of the website as I want (as long as I get changes approved by him first). But I'm a bit confused - should I start with a layout for the site, launch it (once I get approval), and only then go through everything and edit the blog posts for SEO keywords? Or do I need an SEO plan from the get-go? Are there layouts that are more or less SEO friendly?

I know nothing about SEO. I'm willing to learn, of course, but I'm also open to hiring outside help.

I just want to make sure that if I get outside help, I don't waste money on something that isn't appropriate to my current work and goals (at any given stage).

So yeah... building a new website from scratch. Where do I start (with SEO)? Which things will have the biggest impact on a website's rankings? What would you do in my situation?

How did you guys learn to do SEO?

I worked in live entertainment for about a decade - and over the years would write articles for my buddy's business while traveling as a side hustle. Learned the ropes on how to build and rank websites through him. Would eventually take a more formalized course when COVID hit (had a lot of time on my hands) and I generally felt it would have been really helpful for someone coming in who had no experience.

Anyhow - just curious how you guys learned to do what you're doing. What were the big "ah-ha!" moments in the early stages of your careers?

Rhino Rank - Yay or Nay?

I have a number of sites that I own and I've managed SEO for a few sites I don't own.

I'm very particular about link-building and I'm not looking for garbage links to my sites.

I do all of my own content and SEO management.

That being said, has anyone used Rhino Rank for link insertions or guest posts?

How was your experience? Are the sites decent quality or part of spammy PBNs?

How is the quality for pricing?

Is it safe?

Any feedback is appreciated.

Thank you

As title reads, I always search keywords to see the ranking of my website but suddenly it is not showing anymore. However, when i type the exact name of my site, it will still show up. It shows up on Google maps too.

Author and Consultant: Same or Separate Domains?

My client wrote a book about government budgeting. Not a NY Times Bestseller, but he got a lot of press for it. He has a website BookTitle.com. Some of the articles link to this site.

He has since left govt and started a consulting company, His Name Consulting. He had a separate domain for the consulting company HisName.com.

BookTitle.com is live and HisName.com is not. BookTitle.com links to (dead) HisName.com.

So BookTitle.com has the backlinks, but HisName.com is the URL of his consulting company that he's trying to grow.

What's the best approach?

New article not being indexed correctly by Google

I posted a new article Tuesday night and it was crawled Wednesday.

It’s showing up as “On google, but has issues.” It’s also saying it’s not included in the sitemap. However, the live test shows everything is good.

I’m sure that it’s not actually on Google, as it’s not even being ranked yet and this was a very easy targeted KW to rank for.

How can I fix this? It doesn’t tell me what these issues are, and as we know request indexing isn’t possible right now. Can I resubmit the sitemap?

Thanks!

Tips to Reduce Bounce Rate

I’ve been struggling to reduce the bounce rate on a clients website. Managed to get a lot of their content to rank really well in SERPS. Average session time is over 1.5 minutes. But the bounce rate is at 70%+

Most people visit the blog, read the article and/or watch the video. But then I guess they bounce 😅

I’ve tried this trick where you add some code to reduce the bounce rate. But maybe because the client is on HubSpot CMS it doesn’t work.

Debating whether or not to use a lead magnet pop-up. I hate them and would rather not sacrifice UX in favor of a lower BR.

Anyone have any tips? Or similar experiences?

Blog within a niche + News impact on SEO

Well, we've been doing a LOT of work optimizing content and site's infrastructure at the Blog from a courses website. It's been working very well!
We want to add a segment which is News related to our niche (compared to others, we are at very specific niche in Brazil - with about 400K traffic/mo).

The question is:
What will be the impact if we add a Segment (subdomain) only publishing news in our actual SEO?
Or should we buy another domain like news.website.com.br?

There's some juice in search for my language, so I would like to copy and paste translated by me articles from my mother site to this new site. Site is going to look near identically as it's mother.

A summary gets indexed instead of the post itself

Dear SEO experts,

Recently I have created a post in accordance with the rules of SEO.

After 2 weeks, I searched for the keyphrase my post was intended for. Just to watch its ranking.

Now for one reason, the first link in google that shows up... is a category page. Now I do not understand this:

- I made a whole post, fully SEO (with the keyphrase in the slug)

- Google chooses to index a small summary that happens to be on a category archive page.

How is this possible? ...and is there a way to fix this?

Local SEO without physical office

I am running a local service based business out of my home and with employees that are also at home. We do not have an office, only a virtual mailbox address since my business does not require a storefront. We are servicing clients at their office or remotely over the phone.

I am trying to figure out how viable local SEO is for this setup. I was wondering if I should do citations and use my virtual mailbox address. I was also wondering if my business can still show up in local pack or if there's something I need to change in GMB to enable that. I already have pages setup for cities in my area but they are not ranking so I'm trying to figure out what else I can do considering my business doesn't have a storefront or physical office.

My competitors have physical addresses and I see them showing up in local pack. I do not want an office for my business and it looks like I am at a disadvantage because of that. Most local seo information I find is based around a storefront address which we do not have or need.

Does anyone have any thoughts or ideas about this issue.

Does this SEO tool exist?

Here is my pitch:

I want a revolutionary new keyword tool so you don't have to know what to look for when finding keywords in your niche. For example you can find different keywords that are related to your niche, have low competition keywords, almost no one has articles for them and has high search volume. One problem is I am limited by what I know to search and not what is available. For example, if I'm interested in Furniture I have a limited understanding of all the variations in keywords and there might be keywords I am missing because of my limited knowledge. There should be an artificial intelligence that tells you what keywords you should look for in your niche.

Keyword research as a living.. Do you guys want em?

Forgot to mention that the dump is free Hi there, I do keyword research for a living and lots of keywords at that. Sometimes, I get the worst clients ever and I have to allow them to keep the work. I am tired of it. Therefore, I am kinda ranting, but also kinda thinking of dumping them on reddit for you guys to have too. Trust me, there are plenty to use and they are like.. amazing (I only do amazing keyword research). The most recent I have is for jewelry, and they are some beautiful easy to rank phrases. Great to have for those trying to rank for SEO and need a niche.

Any how, what is the peoples opinion? Should I start doing keyword dumps of my cancelled orders and give the new SEO-goers real chances of phrases. Or should I just let it go. I asked myself a few times by the way, but I want your opinions. <3

Redirecting expired domains: does it still work? Do you have any experience with it?

I'm in a niche where it's hard to get organic backinks (ore even paid, for that matter), so I'm set to try out some out-of-the-box stuff.

One of them is expired domains (either PBN or, most likely, redirecting them to our site).

The gist is — find an expired domain with good domain authority, redirect to our main site and get all that link juice.

I know it worked back then. Does it still work? What's your experience with it?

I'm not winning SEO, but neither are my competitors. All of the google searches related to my products (guitar pedals and synths) bring up top 10 lists and distributors. What should my strategy be?

For instance a search for 'guitar pedal', or 'guitar pedal company' or any of the type of effects that I do just brings up things like ' Eight best delay pedals for guitarists in 2019 ' on guitar.com or shops that sell many brands. None of my competitors even make the 1st page of results. Should I just accept that SEO is not the way to drive traffic in my industry and focus on other funnelling methods? Should I be trying to write my own listicles (that have to compete with much larger platforms than any of my competitors have - ie. much more general websites).

I should point out I'm super new to the world of SEO so there's a good chance I'm missing some obvious concept, so like don't worry about patronising me.

Changing from co.in to .com

Hey there, I am pretty new to flipping websites, however I found an interesting one that I want to purchase. However, it is an Indian domain and got 90+% of its audience from India. The topic of the website is very broad and would even fit better for western countries. Hence, I want to widen the audience to a .COM. There is obviously the option to use 301 redirects, however I am not really sure whether this might affect SEO in the Indian market since it no longer is a co.in domain but a .com Ideally, I would love to keep the current traffic and build up more from other markets (US, Europe) Any input is appreciated, thanks!

How do my competitors rank their brand new Black Friday posts over my established/updated/backlinked Black Friday post?

I have a Black Friday post that I expand and update each year.

It has loads of backlinks, comments, social media shares and generally ranks #1 for "black friday [niche]" and so on all year.

Two or three days before Black Friday, two of my competitors with zero backlinks and lower domain authority write a Black Friday post, and like magic, they have position #1 and #2, and I'm pushed to #3.

What's with that?

Is there a faster way to get Google to reindex a page.

The title is basically all I need to know, but I'll give a little more information in the hope it makes more sense.

I had a blog post that was ranking well for a popular keyphrase, and I saw a small decline in traffic which alerted me to check GSC. The issue appears to have been present for the last few days (I've been so busy I neglected my own website) that it appears the post dropped off the index.

I ran the report in GSC and it's telling me it was alerted that it was a soft 404. The only thing I can think of is my web host accidentally switched my custom .htaccess file (that had 301 re-writes because I changed the permalink structure for my blog posts) to a default WordPress one to troubleshoot issues on my website - without my permission or asking to do so first.

It has since been reverted, but the post hasn't been recrawled for a few days now and still indicates a soft 404 error so I really do not want them to remove it from the index.

I can't prove it (and it's probably placebo) but it feels like everything is taking so much longer to index with the indexing request tool being suspended, so I have no idea how to get Google's attention and get them to crawl this page again.

Any ideas for me?

(I also cross-posted this to /r/bigSEO but figured there could be some helpful brains here too.)

Homepage ranks instead of specific page

Hi everyone, I am having some doubts about the SEO rankings as my specific pages does not rank in google but the homepage which does not satisfy the user for the particular keyword. I have put the keyword in the home page and gave an internal link to the specific page but the single usage of the keyword made homepage ranked over the specific page.

Did any of you came through same scenarios earlier? How did you guys sorted it out?

Thanks in advance

Google search result question

Hi all.

I am trying to bump up a news article that used to be listed as #1 on Google when my name was searched.

It is written by a media company that I don't have backend access to, so I can't change any of the SEO on that end.

Does anyone know how I can get this link back up again? Is it simply a matter of Googling plus clicking the link?

Are there any programs/sites that could best facilitate this?

Thank you in advance

Moving from Squarespace to Wordpress, will I preserve rank?

I'm moving my mom's business's website from Squarespace to Wordpress but I'm worried that she will lose rank for some searches. For the most part I have copied the text and images exactly but I know there are some structural differences between the two platforms.

Would you mind taking a look at the two and making suggestions to make sure it goes smoothly?

The Squarespace URL is https://grandlux.org and the IP for the Wordpress site is http://18.206.105.209/

When I know SEO will be good on the WP site I'll connect the domain.

Canonical Help

I'm trying to clear up technical errors on a site. I used Ahrefs crawler to help identify problems within pages to create a checklist for me to work through. One of the largest errors I get is the "Duplicate pages without canonical"

I started to research what this meant and I think I have a basic understanding of what the tag *<link rel="canonical" href= does for the bots. It tells crawlers which URL to give credit to. So duplicate content doesn't really matter much is you tell the bots where the original content came from (please correct me if I am wrong).

After using the site audit tool on Ahrefs I get about 250 errors telling me my canonical rule is missing on a bunch of pages. However, when I inspect the pages in chrome I find (what looks to me) the correct *<link rel="canonical" href= in the head of the page.

Why doesn't a page test pick up on the tag? It's totally possible I'm just not understanding what I am looking at, so please correct me if I am wrong.

Ranking search pages on google.... how?

Anyone have insight into how websites like amazon rank search pages on google. Like when you search up chewtoy, something like a search page of amazon with "chewtoy" prefilled will be a result even for obscure phrases. Do they manually take best searches and put them in a sitemap or is this something google automatically does for big sites?

SEO company doing shady $#!T? - Thoughts?

A customer of mine hired a local company he was suggested by a friend to re-develop his website and do his SEO, both on-site as well as off-site. They will charge him a hefty amount for the development, including another $500 monthly for an on-going SEO (and another $400 to run his adwords and fb ad campaigns). He sells like 5 products currently ffs and hopes to add another 10 to 20 within a year. Apparently a big part of their technique is owning 1000 sites that they post articles on (I assume) and create backlinks. Now keep in mind, these are not legit sites but made for SEO sites. This sounds extremely black-hat to me, not to mention that Google is surely smarter than that and it should become rather obvious to the algo what is what pretty soon, if not already. Surely this is not the way to go about your SEO if you're a serious company looking to build your brand and sell your own products? He is not a chinese sourced dropshipper looking for a quick buck and then burn it to the ground...

Am I right or am I right? I want to tell him to stay the fuck away from them, but I don't want to give bad advice in case I'm still stuck in 2012.

Include keywords in meta title and H1

Hi guys,

I have a few questions:

  • Does the h1 need to reflect the meta title?
  • Does including a keyword in both meta title & H1 will help to rank on Google? (Increase the CTR sure, but not too if it's still a metric for Google}
  • Random question. Is keyword research for meta tags (not content) dead?

I think I have myself the answer to those questions, but with all the rumours (a keyword in a meta title doesn't help your SEO, keyword research or stuffing is dead, etc.)

Yes

Yes

No

What do you think?
