Divi is the worst page builder and I've had it with this crap!

Just. like.the.title.says. I cannot stand how shaky this builder is. First of all, creating a responsive header for mobile devices has been a pain. On top of that their system has bugs where it changes your shit - globally. So I've spent hours on fixing and trying to figure things out. Elementor Pro is way superior and extremely easy to use compared to this crap of a thing called Divi! Do not use Divi.

optimizing a simple image blog.

i have an image blog that is formatted like a traditional blog - it is 1 column with no sidebar where each post is an image with about 100 words of text describing it in the body of the post. i have wp set to show 10 posts per archive page. there is a footer menu with 4 pages not related to the blog. i have about 200 posts. i use chris pearson's focus theme. by default it has all tags and category links hidden. if i am trying to rank by image is there any reason to include categories that group my images by subject? i typically have like 5 categories and put them at the top of the blog as a primary menu. is there any good reason to do this - other than tradition? i also have no-indexed everything but posts. is this a bad idea? also should i include a search function for visitors to search for images? thanks for any help - i know nothing about seo - other than the main way to get traffic is to make good content.

What's the best way to organize your keywords?

I mean, we can organize them by:

  • Head (or "Seed") > example "Clock Radio"
  • Body > example "Clock Radio with iPhone"
  • Tail > example "Clock Radio with iPhone & Bluetooth"

Is there any other way you'd recommend?

Google Disagrees With My Canonical

Google stopped indexing most of my pages. The reason has to do with the canonical url. Google crawls the pages and sets a canonical link different than the one listed on the page. Before, my canonicals had been botched. As of yesterday, it has been fixed. However, Google is continuing to choose the main page as the canonical for almost all of the pages.

I'm unsure what the precise cause is and how I should go about fixing it. Should I make a crappy version of the web site and serve it only to search engines? Is it possible that the canonical issue could be resolved simply by having more inbound links? Should I pre-render content and wrap it with a pair of <noscript> tags?

There are a few things I think might be of relevance:

1) Lack of pre-rendering: I've moved away from a monolithic frontend + backend architecture, and towards a more scalable and distributed UI + API design. The URLs are still crawlable, however content is loaded via JavaScript. Google and Bing both crawl the links and they both obtain content via the API. Are Google and Bing currently indexing JavaScript-heavy pages?

2) Other JavaScript issues: I set the canonical and page title on both the front and back-end. Canonicals are also updated whenever the page updates. I also execute some less common operations such as "replaceState". I have no idea how their crawlers handle these types of things.

3) No site map: There are a 100K+ pages that are readily crawlable. These pages are only reachable via a listing of links on a series of hidden HTML pages.

Two Businesses on One Address (Local SEO GMB question)

Hello there,

I have few questions for all (local) SEO specialists.

TL;DR - Can you have on one business address registered multiple GMB profiles with different KWs (because different industry/different services) but with the same brand name (same ownership and brand recognition)? Thank you

Our main company has a well positioned and optimized GMB profile. We are number 1 in google's snack pack, have good reviews, active Q/A sections etc, registered office address, etc... . I can say we dominate the local market through our GMB profile, SERP and local service directories because (we cater local clients). Our company's name consists of a KW+Brandname[1] imagine Boring Monsters Ltd. (*Boring means boring/drilling activities).

We are in the last stage of acquiring another company in a completely different niche. Their name is just a Brandname[2] imagine Coderlytics, QickQoders,... they cater clients locally and globally in a very specific service/consulting niche. They have relatively well maintained GMB profile but almost no social presence, etc. Our goal is to "merge" two companies, close their HQ office, wind down their Ltd. and change their business address to our registered address because we are going to close the rental agreement with their landlord as soon as we finalize the acquisition and move their team to our office. My goal is to boost their digital presence (redirect old domain to the new website with new domain name, onsite+offsite SEO, digital marketing, direct marketing, etc.) one but I don't know what to do in regards their GMB profile.

That's why I am asking what should I do with their GMB profile ?
-Can I rename their old GMB profile name as KW+Brandname[1] i.e. Boring and Drilling Software Monsters Ltd. because we want to show we are the new owners and change their business address to the new one. Is it allowed to have multiple GMB profiles with similar names on one location? i.e. my main company's GMB profile Boring Monsters Ltd. as well as Boring Software Monsters Ltd. or we will get penalized by Google? Or I just need to add new services (software development) under my main Boring Monsters Ltd. GMB profile? According to my knowledge GMB profile names as tied to Business names, right ?

Maybe I am just over complicating, and I should just simply delete their GMB profile and create a new one and that's it?

Thanks for your comments !

Adding a Banner ad

I had published a new GMB listing for a mom and pop sports shop and was waiting for the OTP from Google to verify the business. How do you get backlinks (newbie)

Hello,

I'm new to this SEO game. So how do you get backlinks? I'm trying to promote a software product for a client. So far I've encountered following options:

1) fiverr - a lot of people are selling backlinks on this platform however most of the time they are pretty much useless (often looking like spam links on forums)

2) google search for selected keyword (associated with software and competitors), contact webpages authors, ask for guest post or similar. However, here they charge a lot (like 1-2k USD per month for a snippet and a link). Often they don't reply at all.

3) write some semi-useless seo articles about software product and similar products on popular platforms like medium / blogspot etc.

Am I missing something here? Also how to calculate whether this serious investment from point (2) will be worth it?

thanks!

Country based TLD and targetting OTHER countries.

Hey SEO experts,

I'm looking into purchasing some COUNTRY specific domains, however will not be marketign to the intended country.

ie. domain.ge = but the website will be for GERMANY (even though ge is for GEORGIA).

domain.ee = targetting AUSTRALIA. (ee = estonia)

Just to be clear, when i say 'targetting' i mean PROVIDING services only to Australia. and NOT providing services to Estonia in this case.

Does anyone know if this will be a 'problem'. In the past Google 'findings' they said that country level domains won't be prioritized over general TLDs like .com But this is more of a ... would it NEGATIVELY impact it.

Anyone with a virtual business manage to verify multiple GMB on one account?

My 2nd location isn't receiving the postcard. I'm wondering if Google has flagged my account or something. The location is a (virtual) office space that I rented - just like my 1st location.

I'm using multiple locations because all my top competitors do it and I know it benefits them. And they somehow managed to get their multiple locations verified. Of course the locations are hours apart though, as is mine.

Anyone with a web/seo business manage to get multiple locations verified through postcards?

edit: Google has crossed out my phone number on my GMB page. I guess they want a different phone number for each location or someone's flagging my phone? it says " This location has updated information from Google users or other sources. Review these published updates to make sure that they're accurate " (probably unrelated to me not receiving the postcard)

My domain redirect idea - is that a good idea?

OK, so I have a DA 92 Press Release that has is on a "High Domain" Authority domain, but the links embedded in the Press Release are dofollow - which is pretty standard.

The chances of this PR Release (and my embedded backlinks) of getting indexed is fairly low I think - so - what I did was I redirected a bunch of expired domains that have decent niche-specific links to them and 301'd the root of these domains to my specific PR URL.

The point being that I redirect the bot from the expired domains to the PR Release in an attempt to power up my URL on that DA 92

Sound good or a bit of a waste of time?

Be honest - I'd rather hear that it's a BS strategy if you think so or it has some merit?

Thanks

Advice from some Experts?

Hi

I have a blog and was wondering if anybody knows how to go about making a membership section to restrict premium content for a small fee.

I cover a sporting event that occurs once a year the blog got over 30,000 page views last year just by being ranked on the second page of google for a specific keyword. Most users are spending 30+ minutes on the website just for the information.

I understand there a plugins that allow the setting up of a membership section, but I have two concerns.

Are these plugins safe?

Is it safe to take payments online using something like the paypal feature?

I know how to use wordpress and write the content, but that is really about it.

Any information would be much appreciated.

why does website ranking differ by location?

Hi there, I was hoping someone could help with a local SEO question I have.

We track our ranking performance on SEMrush across 50 or so keywords. We have store locations in various cities across Canada, and have a position tracking campaign set-up for each city. This enables us to see how we rank in the cities we have stores. We also have a national position tracking campaign set-up, to see how we stack up at a national level.

I was wondering why we rank better in the cities we have stores, versus nationally? As an example, our visibility across tracked keywords is around 10% for each city we have a store in. For the same keywords at a national level, that visibility is much lower.

For various reasons, we don't make any mention of stores or the cities we have stores in on our website. We don't have any contact pages or the like that makes reference of our locations. How then does Google rank us higher in these cities? I'm not complaining of course, but I'd like to understand to help inform a future local SEO strategy.

The only thing I can think of is we have a Google MyBusiness location for each store location, pointing back to our website. Thus, if someone searches in a city we have a store, can Google pick-up on the fact we have a location near to that user (by way of us having a GMB location linked to our website) and subsequently rank our website higher in SERPS?

I'm struggling to think of any other way Google can figure out why it should rank our website higher in the locations we have stores if there's nothing that tells them that on our website.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Blank Slate- Starting to Train myself in SEO: Should I create a website or a blog?

With absolutely no knowledge about creating a website and only knowing the basics of SEO(for example, knowing only what an off-page SEO and on-page SEO do, but not knowing how to actually do it), should I create a website or a blog to train myself SEO while learning SEO on the go?

I thought this so I could accelerate the pace at which I'm going to learn SEO by basically applying it while studying it. That's why I'm asking whether should I create a website or a blog to acquire hands on experience on SEO.

I really have no prior knowledge, in short I'm a blank slate just watching a couple of vids about SEO. My goal is to be able to get a regular job online about SEO.

I'm extremely desperate to learn. By that I mean, I could really study it 24/7 just so I could get a job.

Any tips? Any advices on how could I learn faster? Should I learn coding also? Please, anything will do.

My goal is to get a job within 15 days to 1 month related to SEO. I know that's an ambitious goal, but I'm really pretty desperate.

My background is an electrical engineering student with having prior experience with writing a novel.

(How) Would you leverage a high-authority (PBN-like) network of sites to rank new properties?

We have the following constellation:

  • ~15 properties with non-trivial organic traffic
  • distributed in 4 languages
  • all focused around the same topic but with a minimum of 3 skews per language
  • for now consider the skews being a comparison site, an e-commerce site, and a news site
  • AHrefs DR of the sites is between 25-40

Constellation:

  • we are launching 3 new languages (brand new domains) with 3 new websites each (total of 9)

The question:

  • Would you and if so how would you leverage your existing website ecosystem to rank the new sites over time? Concretely I can think of the questions
  • Would you pace setting links vs making them all language footer links at launch?
  • Would you want to link from the HP, potentially content relevant sub pages, or both?
  • Where would you place the links? Footer, vs language dropdown, vs sidebar, vs more curated in between content
  • Would you cross link across all soon to be 24 properties or potentially set a path based on current traffic/ranking potential?

Would love to see the creativity of this community and how you would approach as well as what you would expect to happen. Definitely committed to sharing back results if there is quality input.

How does Google look at Quotes - Text Copy - Translate to another language?

So... I am working on a new project and one of the ideas I have are quotes, no one does it in our niche and I see one huge plus in the long run.

How does Google look at those "inspirational quotes", does anyone have experience with that?

This is how it will go:

1. Find Quotes

2. Copy Text From Quotes

3. Translate

4. Create New Image With Translated Quotes [mix it]

5. Share

Mostly we will have our original inspirational quotes, but since we use 5 social networks + site, I need to post something new every day, there will come a time when I will have to copy some other quotes.

In that case, I would just copy the words, everything else I do personally.

So, I am not copying the whole already done a picture with the quote, but only the words + translate.

Will Google be like, Hell Nah, or...?

Plus, I have to add that it's not English, so everything will be translated into our language.

I've already done some 50 quotes, mostly these are our original ideas but sometimes I take a look aside.

When I see something cool, I try not to copy the whole text, I will always try to change it a bit, but I'm interested in how Google looks at it?

Months-in and neither Facebook nor Google are acknowledging / posting my clients' Reviews, cannot figure-out *why* I'm getting this block :/

tl;dr-- Maybe 1/4th year ago I setup my "Facebook biz Page" and "Google [verified] Business accounts", and initially was upset at Feedback/Ratings/Reviews never showing-up after clients left it, it'd show on their end as working normal but wouldn't show-up on my page for either service. Figured "Let time pass, you're too new" but I've done that and this past week on 2 occasions I finished a job and then literally saw as the clients "rated" and "left feedback" and on their end it looked fine, but it never impacts my public-facing Feedback/Ratings! I am doing good on IRL-referrals only right now, but could do soo much better if all my clients could leave the feedback that they are eager to leave for me :P I know this is an incredibly narrow facet of SEO, if it even is at all, but figure this is by-far the most appropriate sub for this, thanks in-advance for anything :D Have a great (remainder-of!) weekend everyone!!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Yes I know it's not SEO in the strictest sense but cannot fathom that Google is putting my (verified, functional & frequently-used) business-listing anywhere remotely where it should be, but that's not why I'm posting today, I need help resolving why I cannot receive Feedback/Reviews/Scoring from my clientele, I figured 'Maybe the accounts need to be a lil older' but it's been like a quarter of a year at least and I recently tried-again (asked 2 clients to leave feedback, asked in-person because am afraid Google's algorithms may see&ban 'requested feedback' as requesting it is in-violation, anyway I know for-fact that it's still the same problem as I was with both clients this past week when they attempted to leave my feedback, it would show-up on their end as submitted but would-not show up on my end, or affect/change my "0 Reviews/feedback" ratings)
I hope you guys can understand me not linking-to my business, sadly I've yet to create an account for Reddit with that handle and really don't want my ages-old Reddit linked to my fledgling tree service's Facebook&Google pages :P I know the 'standard' rejection-reasons IE having your friends leaving feedback, or people creating a google/facebook account right-before leaving the feedback, I have avoided every.last.trap that I have ever heard of (as I've no intent of "playing fast&loose" here), but after this long you'd think my feedbacks&reviews would show on one of these services, the fact that neither are functional here makes me think there's some hard-block on my account for some reason I cannot find or see :/ Have considered putting $$$ into my facebook&google accounts, in an attempt to rectify any misgivings on their ends, does this sound like at least worth trying?
Thanks a ton for any&all insight into this, I want to make a WP page (static page of hours/services/etc, maybe pictorials of jobs) as well and "get on my SEO-game" but for right now I'm getting enough real-world referrals that online-presence has taken a faaaaar backseat to just working jobs, and I want to rectify it but it feels futile when I cannot start racking up my (legitimate & justly-earned!) reviews/ratings/feedbacks!!
I attacked using SEO, yes you've read it right and I need your help.
Greetings.
I am not a SEO expert or a digital marketer, I am a simple person who does her job like other people on the earth (honestly, I'm a programmer) and this is not an introduce yourself post, so I am going to explain what happened to me.
One and half year ago, a guy who claims to be in contact with government officials of Iran, threatened me that he will make a case for me to end me up in an execution (for not believing in God, being trans and something like that). Later, I found he's lying about his connection so I sued him.
Lawsuit went pretty good and I won it. It mean he was convicted to pay a fine (It's ridiculous that the fine was only about $15 USD) and then he's free. The story didn't end here though. He's now making blog posts and videos about me and when people search my name, they see his shit above mine!
I have a blog (which is not that active, because I only write tutorials there) and in search results, first his blog shows up then my blog and other stuff I have.
I reported the content to google, but I need a much faster way to make those disappear, because it can be at the cost of my life.
Please give me your solutions, I'd be so thankful.
SEO Success Story
I work in a Swedish SEO agency and I got a car dealer as an SEO project. The pre-SEO rankings were not that good, hence we conducted an SEO audit and got to know what things need to done and aligned them as per the priority basis.
With that, I optimized the website as per our research and data. After 2-3 months we saw a major improvement in traffic.
The 3 months of SEO boosted the traffic by 166% and along with that conversion rate also got improved.
What did we do? Nothing much just focused on basics like Proper KW Research, Content, On-page and Technical SEO improvements.
Backlinks? Nah we didn't do that! Just focused on the basics of On-page SEO that's it.
Still, it's a long way for me to dig more into SEO, as it's dynamic! and I am also ready for a discussion if it's about SEO :P. I help out those who are not clear with a particular task.
I found out that being humble in this industry is a requirement because you can always learn something from entry-level and PRO SEO's
Backlinks from client sites you've built
Hi all, as a web design agency, what are some of the best ways to build backlinks from client websites without being too intrusive.
At the moment I would have "Web design by XXX" entirely linked to my agency site. Always showing in the footer.
That way "web design" key word is associated to my link.
Is my thinking correct? Are there less intrusive ways?
Plea for help/advice
Hey guys
Not even sure if this is the place to post a request like this but I’m pretty desperate for work right now.
My current working environment is a living hell and I need to get out before it destroys my mental health.
I’ve been wanting to go freelance for a very long time but I have no idea where to start with looking for clients. I’m pretty introverted and so selling myself is tough even though I’m more than capable of doing the work.
I’ve been dabbling in SEO for about 8 years and I’ve seen some great results. Most of this work is my own lead generation sites or through my current job. Mainly local but also some national keywords on various sites.
I’m excellent at writing optimised posts/articles etc and know much more than just the SEO basics.
So TL:DR 1. Is anyone swamped with work and could do with an assistant to help with their SEO work? 2. If not, can anyone help with pointing out how to get clients without huge amounts of salesman skills?
Thanks in advance, I really appreciate anyone helping as I can’t continue the way I am right now.
site structure and hard silos - how to choose correctly
Hi,
I'm currently thinking about the site structure of my 1st website. Total newbie here so I apologize if some things I say don't make sense :)
The site will be a mix of affiliate links (mostly courses) and courses I'll sell myself.
I'll be using pages and hard silos.
Since hard silos can't be changed without trouble once they are set, I'm trying to think about how to differentiate the 2 kind of courses.
For example, perhaps something like this:
- for affiliate course: homepage/recommandations/courses
- my personal courses: homepage/courses
In the "Recommendations", I'll have affiliate links to Online courses, apps, some amazon stuffs. Maybe also some non affiliate links like Suggested Youtube channels.
What to do think? Have you ever encounter a similar issue? Is it bad to have "courses" in two different URLs even if they are not in the same place? Should I change "Recommendations" by something else?
Thank you for your help! :)
How Do Sites Get a Very High DR With No Traffic?
Hi guys, complete SEO noob here.
I've been learning SEO for about the past 2 months, in this time I have become very accustomed to the Ahrefs tool. I know that the Domain Rank from Ahrefs is completely proprietary from their end and so needs to be taken with a pinch of salt.
That being said, I very often come across websites that have really great Domain Ranks (Upwards of 70, one had a DR of 85). Yet their organic traffic is listed as '<1' could anyone give me an understanding as to how this happens, please? Is it a PBN thing?
Very low Impression in google search console
Hi, I'm a kinda beginner in blogging so I'm not sure if my question is correct.
I have 35 articles posted and 32 are indexed in google and they are appearing too in search.
I saw a lot of blogs with 3000 impressions in the search console even in the first months. I have posts with 1200-2000 words so I don't get why the daily impression is only between 5-20.
Most articles are 1 month old, the site itself is 2 months old.
Is this normal? Or I'm not using enough keywords in the article?
The website is gambling related so it should get a decent google search volume.
Any idea?
Penalised for poor availability/stock levels?
Hi all,
I am undertaking a bit of research for a site I am working on and have been tracking one of our most valuable keywords over the past few weeks.
Our position for this has been fluctuating between #1 and #3 for this, with a little more volatility than usual. I have spotted that there may be a bit of a correlation between our rank and our stock levels (i.e. when stock levels dip, so does rank - with a bit of time-lag in between).
Just looking to see if I can verify this. Has anyone spotted anything similar to this before?
I have also cross referenced this with Bounce Rate but the correlation does not seem as strong (if any at all) with this.
Any links to relevant articles/blog posts/useful information is welcomed!
Learning SEO
I’d like to learn seo from the very beginning because I don’t have templates and lack in knowing short cuts. I have access to the work site so could learn on that. Can anyone recommend the best way to learn step by step in a methodical way? I’ve done searches and there’s Google, moz etc doing free courses but actually I’m looking at a methodical way and the courses just send me to different areas all the time so I get stuck with what I should do first and how to follow. Thanks I’m advance
What are the affects of internal duplicate content?
I am currently creating a clothing shop with some similar products that each have a different webpage. Due to their similarity (for example, two designs of hoodies use the same hoodie type), my product descriptions are essentially verbatim (minus a paragraph here and there).
My question is: does this near-duplicate internal content hurt my webpage’s SEO? Is there an optimal way to write product descriptions when the products are extremely similar?
Just Landed My Next Client, and The Best Part Was It Was Through Reddit
I'm so excited to announce that not only did I land my next SEO client, but I'm also glad to say it came from one of these communities right here on Reddit. A while back I posted about how my client was doing well and starting to land leads every single month through the use of SEO and GMB tactics, now this post was actually made to help me out and I actually used it to ask a few questions of my own such as where to go from there. I didn't expect anyone to be interested in my services but I got a message from someone who seemed rather interested. We talked for a while on reddit and I showed them some results, and after a while I offered them a free digital marketing attack plan. They watched it through and were thrilled with the process and potential results. One thing lead to another and now here we are with both a website redesign and SEO work. I'm so excited and thankful for all of you guys and it goes to show you never know whos watching or reading your post. I'm also glad to see people online taking care of one another so once again thank you all for all the help and support
Creating content before the website: good of bad idea?
Hi!
Last week I use my Ahrefs trial to do keyword research, and I gather at least 100-130 keywords.
Before creating my first website, I was thinking of writing at least 10-15 articles to see if I can actually write interesting things on my topic and if I don't get "bored".
For now, I wrote my first article. In the process of writing the 2nd.
But since I'm a beginner, writing content takes a lot of time (with in-depth research, organization and writing, I spent at least 10-15h on the 1st article).
Do you think it's a good idea to write the content before creating the website? Why/why not?
Thank you for your help,
Jo
SEO for an artist
i am an artist and i have a site that gets most of its traffic from google image search. it is a blog format based on genesis framework. i used to get thousands of views a day now i get 50 on a good day. it has been a long decline - like 10 years. broad question: is there any value at all in using yoast seo plugin? is google good enough now at sifting through websites that there is no point in having a plugin or a blog formatted site with built-in seo features? would i be better off finding the fastest most minimal free theme and tossing yoast and genesis? also when i am trying to rank using images does it matter if i type up 100 words describing the image and telling a story about it or would i be better served putting up a bunch of image gallery pages by category? it looks to me like most of the sites that are beating me are galleries with little or no text.
Content optimization/improvement tool
Hey folks, I was looking for a content improvement tool. I've been using grammarly for content creation alongside yoast for readability improvement. While looking for a more advanced option, I came across tools like clearscopd, SurferSEO, frase, marketmuse, dashword etc. What will be the best and pocket friendly choice if I want to optimize some 15-20 contents a month?
