Ranking in Google

Hi guys,

I have been trying to rank in Google for months now but nothing seems to be happening. I have taken so many courses on SEO and I've spent so much money learning how to rank my site but I'm still nowhere to be found on Google. I had started getting some traffic through Pinterest but with Covid 19 things seem to be slowing down. Right now, I don't know if I should give up on my site or continue even if I'm seeing no change. Is anyone else experiencing this or if you've experienced it before, how did you get through it?

The use of PBN for SEO and local maps ranking....

I am curious as to what people thin of using PBNs now days. Link building is obviously an important factor, but using PBNs as part of that strategy. What the thoughts are of PBNs for just links or embedding or whatever it is you feel work best in your strategy.

Yoast Plugin Cononical Tag Issue

I have a blog and I sometimes like to republish articles. So to make sure Im not penalised I use a Cononical tag to point to the original article. The problem is that if you share that link on a social media platform it redirects the link to the original article. Does anyone know how to work around this in the yaost plugin?

Should I write blog posts for my car detailing business?

Hi guys

Thank you for all the help with my previous SEO questions. It has helped me a ton.

Should I be writing more blog posts for my car detailing business?

My understanding is that blogs help gain organic backlinks, social shares, SME authority, etc.

But I'm not sure what kind of posts I should be writing about. I'm honestly not sure what topics my target audience would be interested in if they're interested at all.

I see on competitor sites it's common to have the following, these same competitors are the ones using blackhat link strategies, so I'm not sure if their content is actually engaging or is it just something to thicken the website for Google (perhaps this is also a valid reason to produce content even if users are not reading it):

- Easy steps to clean dashboard

- How to clean car carpets

- How to remove ink from leather seats

I open it and read the content, it's garbage and not written by a native English writer....

SEO tool to get the most shared/liked blog posts on social medias

Hi,

I once found a tool that showed the most shared/liked blog posts on Facebook, Twitter and others over the last week/month. It was pretty awesome to find out what kind of content currently generates traffic on social medias. It was free as I remember (or at least the free plan was sufficient for me).

Do you guys know the site i'm talking about ? Can't find it anymore and it's driving me crazy haha.

Thanks in advance.

GSC: From 1.4k to 3 impressions in 24 hours

So I posted something 2 weeks ago. Since Google indexed it, impressions are up to 2k the first day (which is normal, right?) Kept fluctuating from 1.5-2k the first week. Then second week came, from 1.4k, impressions were downnnnn to 3 (!!!) in 24 hours.

Can somebody tell me if this is normal? I'm targeting a keyword with a big number of visits.

Thanks a lot!

Assessing an organization's current impact/ presence in the digital space

Hi there,

So this question is tangentially related to SEO - if this isn't the best subreddit, please let me know. I am undertaking an assessment of my organization's presence online as it currently stands. I'm wondering what are some metrics you would look at?

The ones I've thought of so far, for example:

  • User demographics (gender / geography / platform etc.) (via Google Analytics)
  • Domain authority on Google (via Moz)
  • Total number of links to our page (linking domain) (via Moz)
  • Our main competition based on our industry's most relevant keywords (via Google ads or Moz)
    • Finding the most relevant keywords for our industry
  • Number of likes / followers / impressions on social channels... (Twitter/ FB analytics)

What am I missing here that would paint a better picture of (1) our organization's current presence in the digital space, and (2) the broader state of play for our "industry" (it's an NGO field).

Many thanks!

Multiple websites vs one big one for SEO

I make websites and a client contacted me yesterday to have some websites made. He runs a construction company. He wanted to have each service be its own website. Each with their own blog for SEO. He also has two business addresses. I told him one website might be better for multiple but I also told him I was not sure thus I am here to ask.

Is it better to have a different website for each service offered or one big website?

Merging 2 websites together suggestions needed!

Hey guys,

We have a SAAS company we have acquired that sells GDPR/CCPA compliance solutions that generate about 5K monthly organic traffic.

There is another website that is rather informational about GDPR that has no services behind it, and it generates about 8K monthly organic traffic.

I would like to merge the second website with the first one, but try and keep these rankings / visitors.

How would you guys go about this? What steps would you take to copy these content over to the first website?

Recommended Services for OnPage SEO Optimization?

Hi All, I have a piece of content that's 2 years old and over 7000 words ranking for over 2k keywords that I'd like help optimizing against the top ranking contents (top keyword rankings has been dropping steadily from position 1 down to 7+ over the last few months). Case Study: Niche Site after 4 months applying only Whitehat technique

Hi everyone,

I'm very noob and new to this SEO stuff, this is my first blog. As you expect I have quite low knowledge about SEO and all other things about really matters at the beginning. But in some months I significantly increased my knowledge on this subject and started a new project on 11th Nov 2019. As many of us in this forum, I want to both give information and motivate myself by sharing case studies. I have a full-time job and only focus on the blog spare time during the week, especially weekends. I'm always open to your suggestions.

My Niche: Spirituality

Strategy and Tactics

  • Always follow the white hat SEO
  • Create unique and uplifting content, I'm focusing on Longtail Keywords with very low competition and a decent amount of searches >1000 Searches/month at least
  • No effort for backlinks
  • No effort for guest posts (in my niche is very difficult to get guest posts published with a Dofollow backlink, you have to work for them creating content and in addition, you have to pay them!! Crazy!)
  • Build a community on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Tumblr and share all my posts there and maintain good engagement
  • Mangools Tools (KWfinder) for keyword and competition research
  • Create at least 2 posts per month with at least 1.000 words each

Monetization

  • ClickBank affiliate offer

My Goals

  • Increase in organic traffic every month
  • Get a 500 $/month before the end of 2020
  • Thinking in creating a big journal website dedicated ONLY to spirituality similar to Elephant Journal

This is the summary of this 4.5 months so far:

Month #Posts Organic Traffic (According to Google analytics) Affiliate Income
(1) November 2019 2 8 $0
(2) December 2019 4 5 $0
(3) January 2020 6 18 $136.64
(4) February 2020 8 41 $17.87
(5) March 2020 10 73 $24.88

Keyword Rankings from SEMrush

Top 3 4 to 10 11 to 20 21 to 50 51 to 100 Total
(1) November 2019 1 1
(2) December 2019 1 6 7
(3) January 2020 3 7 10
(4) February 2020 1 2 14 18 35
(5) March 2020 0 3 27 25 55

Plans for Next Month (April 2020)

  • Publish at least 3 posts per month
  • Create a monthly post with at least 2.000 words
  • Get in touch with micro-influencers and propose a collaboration

Pros and Cons

As I'm working full-time I didn't spend enough time to publish more content but that's ok, I'm playing for the long-shot. I will try to double content before the end of June 2020 which might make a difference. An increase in organic traffic every other month is very motivating for me which can be clearly seen from the google analytics data.

Thanks for sharing your suggestions and insights about the journey.

Cheers,

Sebastian

Finding a Technical SEO Job

Hey all,

I'm currently looking to make a sideways movement in my career to a more technical SEO focused position... I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on to where to look.

So far I've looked through nearly all the search results on Google and LinkedIn for "SEO" and "Technical SEO". I've only found 9 jobs that I seem qualified for and that interest me. Where can I find more opportunities? I know there are a ton of SEO jobs out there, so how do some of you all go about finding them?

I know that this is probably not the best time to make a move considering everything going on with COVID-19, but I'm severely underpaid right now (almost disgustingly underpaid) and I've been preparing to make a move so I need to make a move.

Thanks in advance for any and all advice

Page rankings and updates

I was getting a view here and there on a post so I updated it. Now it ranks a lot higher and gets views everyday at least 2-5. It updated quick because it already had some kind of authority I'm assuming but for my other page, for example it knocked it down from the bottom of page two to the top of page 3 but did not change the title, yet. I'm pretty confident now in making adjustments and doing better with seo obviously based off my first edit. Is it a bad thing that it got knocked down? seems like it's putting it on hold. Bing updated it and now I'm on the top of page 2. Bottom of page 1 would be better but oh well can't complain if I start getting a view here and there, thanks.

Does this work when ranking for Long Tail Keywords?

If you have a few long tail keywords that you are targetting that have really low competition, you have optimised the on-page seo as much as possible and already know the page converts well from paid sources, can you build up a small number of backlinks (5-20) from mostly unrelated sources and have those links give your site a slight boost for that Long Tail Keyword?

Does small amounts of back linking actually help for long tail keywords?

Video link building

Hey, I posted earlier about a method I'd like to try out and now I've got some time to do so I'll explain it in more detail.

Link building has always been difficult or expensive. This method isn't about paying big prices or creating huge content that might get links.

Basically, find a number of bloggers in your niche (will probably be more effective with medium DA or relatively new blogs). When you have a list of bloggers, look through their posts to see if you can find any that can be improved by adding a video description. If the posts don't have some kind of video already, this will apply to most of them.

Then, when you have a post in mind, reach out to the blogger to offer to create a video for them which summarises the post - explain that it's theirs to put on the page and Youtube, Facebook.

If they accept, either make the video if you have the software or the skills, or find a video editor on Fiverr to do it.

Once it's done and they're happy with it, simply ask them to drop a thank you with a link back to your site and see if there's any room to manoevre in terms of being able to drop a link elsewhere and to a certain page instead.

Most bloggers receive so many generic emails in a day - I think this method can be a great way to differentiate and look more personal.

I've not been involved with SEO for a while as I concentrate on local advertising - which includes editing videos, but the one time I did this it worked really well.

I know a lot of people struggle with their link building, and because of the current climate I am happy to try this for some of you. As it's still a risk I'll only charge once the link is placed and we're all happy.

If any of you would like to give this a try yourselves, keep me posted on how it works.

Can we help?

Hi,

we run a social project that helps economically disadvantaged people to improve their livelihoods.

We are currently helping a women's company based in Afghanistan (I know omg) .

Because of the current crisis (Covid-19 or coronavirus), I am often in the hospital, I cannot continue the social project in a proper way.

Currently we need help with the reorganization of the webpage, help with our Amazon site, support with the cooperation with affiliate cooperations and e-commerce in general.

Also we would be happy about further possibilities in distribution and sales, especially because you are experts.

Since our income has collapsed and we have no more money, we pay in congratulations and thanks.

If someone would like to help, has time and can't do anything better with it, we would be happy if this appeal reaches those who can help.

We are aware that during this time many people are worried about themselves and their loved ones, and so are we.

We still want to fulfill our duties and everyone who wants to do so is welcome.

Many greetings

Question About External Links & No-Follows On A Blog

Hi, I just started at a new agency and noticed a blog that we published to our site had 17 external links. This seemed like a lot so I wanted to know how many would be considered too many external links on a blog post?

Next, due to an SEO quake plugin I noticed three of the 17 external links were nofollows.

I looked into the page authority and domain authority of the URL's and one of the nofollow links had a decent DA of 87 (Moz) while the follow links had around (37). Is this typically something that you would consider when choosing which to make a nofollow?

Lastly, there were two domains that were listed in the first paragraph as follow external links. In the following paragraph those two same domains (but diff URLs) were linked as nofollow external links.

I wanted to know is that confusing Google in any way? Are you showing that you may not trust those sources?

Thanks!

Stock Images vs. Instagram Embeds

What are your thoughts about using Instagram embeds instead of stock images for travel/dining/diy and other niches where Instagram has loads of relevant content?

Will Google dislike this strategy?

Will Google read any part of the image as an <alt> tag?

Expired Domain Appraisal

Trying to determine value of domain to see if I should sell...wondering if you can help me establish a range. Seems like a pretty subjective question -- so even if I could ascertain a range it would be very helpful. Any leads as well would be helpful :)

90% of links are branded and point to homepage (non-hyphenated.com site w/ US audience). Site was dropped by a real business no longer in operation and I picked it up off of expiry auction. Recently put a new page on it - but considering just selling, given the strong metrics.

Metrics:
Ahrefs::
Domain Rank: 64
Referring Domains: 1.44K

Sem Rush::
Authority Score: 49
Referring Domains: 1.6K

Moz::
Domain Authority: 61
Linked Domains: 7.6k
Spam Score: 1%

Majestic:
Citation Flow: 31
Trust Flow: 17

GSC "clicks" vs GA "google / organic"

A local business I'm just starting to work with gave me access to their analytics to look at and one thing I noticed immediately:

I looked at the last 6 months of data and saw that under "source/medium" > "google / organic" they have 6,800 users representing 5,500 users.

I looked a the the GSC data for the same time period and they have reported 22 "clicks" over 6 months. There's no way that's right.

I know that GA and GSC don't always sync up but that is the biggest discrepancy I have ever seen. Is there a common cause and/or fix for this type of problem?

Comparing and Optimizing URL/Route Structure

Hi guys! New here and just learning about SEO.

I'm trying to create a bunch of state and city pages to help rank higher. When researching competitors as well as companies in similar industries, we've noticed that URL structure can vary quite a bit. I've narrowed it down to a few routes that could be taken, and would love to hear some thoughts and opinions. Options for hypothetical URLs for vehicle rentals pages in Salt Lake City:

  1. /UT/Salt-Lake-City-vehicle-rentals

  2. /UT/Salt-Lake-City/vehicle-rentals (preferred from an engineering standpoint, but not sure SEO-wise)

  3. /Salt-Lake-City-UT-vehicle-rentals

And if we offer different vehicles (car, motorcycles, boats, RVs), would something like taking option 2 and expanding it into /UT/Salt-Lake-City/vehicle-rentals/boat-rentals make sense?

If anyone can offer insights regarding the pros and cons of each of the above approaches that would be immensely helpful! And any thoughts regarding how to handle specific types of vehicles (like in the latter example) would also be very helpful.

Sorry for being a noob, look forward to hearing from some experts! Thanks in advance and hope everyone is staying healthy during this time. :)

Useful? NinjaOutreach but with super accurate search

So the main issue with NinjaOutreach/Pitchbox is that its search is inaccurate and leads to spamming unrelated bloggers.

I have an idea for a super nuanced search, with which you could write really personalized email which make it look like you've actually read the article

Example Search:

Praises: Ketogenic Diet

Raises Concern For: Vegetarians

With the above search you'd get all the articles where someone praised ketogenic diet, but also discussed vegetarians. So you can write highly personalized sounding emails to 100s of people in one stroke

Email:

Hey <Author>,

I read <Topic Title> where you talked about the importance of Ketogenic Diets. You also talked about the dietary options for vegetarians.

I've written about a vegetarian diet that has the nutrient benefits of Non-veg diets here: xyz ...

Seo enhancement over godaddy

Hey guys,

I have made a website for my client using godaddy builder and also with the business plan subscription, got basic seo optimisation from godaddy. Now my client wants to get his website’s rank higher in the search results as compared to his competitors.

I have few questions. What can I do more to further enhance seo optimisation. I read online that backlinks is key to page ranking and I found his competitor websites have more backlinks through Alexa. How do I get more backlinks to his site. I am not a coder myself to let you know. Also, is it worth to invest in Google Adword strategy at this point. Thank you.

How does SE Ranking compare to something like Moz?

I'm just starting out in freelance web design and have my first three clients (Been so busy after starting the business last month that I haven't even had time to finish my own web design website yet). I know basics on SEO and would like to offer some reasonably priced but effective services for my clients after their websites go live. They're all small businesses with very few or no competitive keywords, so I feel that even at this stage this is something I could offer in their industries.

I have the free trial for both Moz and SE Ranking. I prefer Moz, but purely for financial reasons at this point in my career, I'm leaning to SE Ranking. $100 a month for Moz or something else like herefs is just too much for me to afford at the moment.

Would I be shooting myself in the foot by going with something like SE Ranking? Are there better, similarly priced resources?

Best approach to retain SEO rankings if I need to change domain names, while using the original domain for a separate but related business?

"site a" currently exists at "sitea.com". I am starting a new business closely related to "site a" but I want the new site, "site b", to take the domain name of "sitea.com" while I port the original business to the newer domain of "siteb.com".

"sitea.com" already has decent SEO rankings, and I want to redirect all of those users, and rankings, to "siteb.com".

I want "sitea.com" to begin hosting the new business without hurting the original business.

The solutions I've seen online say I should redirect traffic from "sitea.com" to "siteb.com". This might work in preserving the rankings, but it does not allow me to use "sitea.com" as the new business.

The two sites are related enough that I plan on implementing links in each site thatll direct any user to the other business.

What's the best approach to this issue?

How to increase E-A-T of your website ? [Guide]

If you have a blog around YMYL (your money, your life) like a finance blog or a health blog then you should care about the E-A-T of your blog.

After the medic algorithm update, Google only ranks content which meet their guidelines. And EAT is one of the guidelines.

So how will you increase the EAT of your website?

1.Focus on building your personal branding

  1. Increase the security of your blog

  2. Add author details in the blog post (adding author bio box will help you)

  3. Ask experts of your industry to write on your blog.

  4. Add testimonials and reviews in your blog.

If you implement these techniques in your blog then there are higher chances to increase EAT of your site.

If you have any questions related this make sure to comment down below.

However, do to some things going on in my life, I won’t be able to start this project for another few weeks. I’m wondering if there would be any benefit (or hard) to buying the domain ahead of time, without posting any content to it?

Page title and H1 tag = what do you do?

I have a blog where I have set the blog titles to be H1 tags.

I also have it set so the blog title is the page title plus the blogs name. ( Blog Title |MyBlogName )

So they are nearly the same.

I did this because I want to have the blog title which usually is a main question to be in a H1 tag and then all the sub-headers breaking the question down in H2s.

Link Building Via Video for Bloggers

Hope everyone's keeping safe.

SEO gig

First and foremost, thank you for your time reading my post. I am complete rookie with websites, seo, etc so if this comes off as stupid, I apologize.

I have a wix website for my tile installation company in a rural area. I am looking to hire someone to 1. Get my business the little pin drop on google maps. I attempted this however they declined me because no signage. The thing is I dont want people coming to my house and knocking on my door I just would like them to be able to see that i live in the town and offer tile installation services. Secondly I would like to see my business show up on google if someone googles tile install and my town. Currently all the websites that show up do not work or atleast are not in my town and I know there are very few people that offer tile install services here but for the life of me I can't get my websites info up there.

QUESTION Wix Blog & Future e-Commerce, Backdating Posts?

Hi! I've got no idea what I'm doing but I built my wix site in about twelve hours and am planning on launching it as a blog the next time there's a sale. Once I'm satisfied that I'm running the blog well, I'll pivot to e-commerce. I'm converting content I've written on other platforms to create a blog, and sort of value the idea of looking like a more established blogger than the blog would show. I'm under the impression that backdating blog posts would be bad for SEO. Does this mean I should date all the posts I go live with for the day I launch? I'm involved in a few social circles and other platforms where I can directly share these backdated blog posts but idk if that's enough to compensate for the hit the SEO would take. I'm quite shit with technology and also quite shit with numbers.

I've of course read lots of information about how WP > Wix even though Wix has worked out most of the major SEO issues it used to be known for. It's just that WP's cost and complexity freak me out. I want my site to look the way it does now or better, and I love the customization I can get just from how I know how to use Wix. My husband is learning coding, but I am not oh at all the kind of person to learn it. I want to launch as soon as I finish writing and editing about ten more posts which should be like the first or second week of April. I'm open to experimenting with it, but I feel like I'd have to pay to experiment whatsoever. If it'd be helpful to see what I've built so far I'd be happy to share.

Meta Data - Always a good idea?

I’ve always taken the time to write meta descriptions for posts & pages that help convert. Checking the CTR & then tinkering.

However, one of my client’s site is fairly large & I missed implementing a couple meta descriptions correctly. Elementor doesn’t play nice with Yoast (I have a habit of using Yoast to count characters mostly & make sure I added data). So when you add meta descriptions to Yoast, Google won’t pick it up. You have to copy & paste it in the page builder.

Articles where I forgot to add the Yoast meta description to the post still rank well. When a user Google’s a question then the post comes up with meta data. Typical so far...

The interesting thing I found was that whatever the search query was, Google pulls the meta description automatically around the keyword of the user search query. Essentially adding custom meta descriptions that is context for the answer they were looking for. It changes based on the query.

Many questions I got feature snippets. There are other questions though that Google does that even if I don’t have a feature snippet. My CTR is way above average.

Has anyone else experienced this?

GMB Social Profiles Question

Greetings. I have a local business with an optimized wordpress website and associated google my business profile that performs well for our niche.

Everything is exactly the way it should be except that the google my business profile will not include our instagram profile. It lists our facebook, twitter and youtube but i cant for the life of me get it to list our instagram.

I have all the relevant schema which of course is now deprecated but my only thought is perhaps the activity/post number is too low?

I used to curate our profile and archive certain posts after a period of time which of course also kept our post count a little low. Sub 200.

I'm trying a new strategy now and that is to just post and try to increase the post count as that is the only thing i havent tried. All relevant information is the same across all social profiles and local citations so this is my last hope.

Anybody have any thoughts on this? Why google my business profile is having a hard time pulling in the instagram profile?

My newly published blog post is dropping in rankings

I posted a blog post a week ago and it keeps dropping in rankings. It appeared first on page 2 then jumped to page 3 and now it's on page 4 of Google!
I stopped blogging for a few months due to several reasons and this is the second post I publish after that break.

This is the first post I write for monetization purposes and I used a lot of Gutenberg blocks in it for the sake of making the comparison between products clearer.
The post is optimized for on-page SEO. Similar posts of mine are ranking on page one of Google.
Thoughts?

A Baffled SEO Professional

I fancy myself as an SEO expert... or at least I play one at my job. That said, I am having the WORST time trying to figure out this problem:

My site won't index. Google REFUSES to read the robots.txt. I've tried every different version: the standard

User-agent: *
Disallow: /wp-admin/
Allow: /wp-admin/admin-ajax.php

The extreme Neil Patel example:

User-agent: *
Disallow:

My own "fuck it I just want to go bed" version:

User-agent: *
Allow: /

No help.

Before you tell me the obvious solutions, this is what I've done (Lodestar theme, WP CMS):

  • Yes, I checked "Settings" under "Reading."
  • All of those robots.txt files pass the Search Console tester
  • That same Search Console says my pages are all noindex
  • I have the See Robots Chrome extension and it's green everywhere
  • Screaming Frog crawl won't get past one page
  • At the advice of a co-worker, I tried the SEO Minion Chrome extension and it fires 200 responses
  • Bing Webmaster tools can crawl the sitemap and it actually presents a No. 1 search result for my field... except the SERP says robots.txt can't read my shit
  • I even thought for a minute that Jetpack and Yoast might be conflicting, but I turned off the SEO capabilities of Jetpack, so it should have no impact on robots.txt, right?

At this point, I'm kind of lost and questioning my entire knowledge base as an SEO professional. Granted, I'm not a developer, but this shouldn't be that hard...

Tag page for news website - to index or not index?

Hi guys. There's a discussion - should we index tag pages on news website or we should not? Option #1 is generate or add unique meta tags and H1 for each and every tag page, option #2 is add noindex tags to avoid indexation of such pages and save crawl budget. If index - what about sitemap for such pages? Maybe someone has a usecase or experience that could help to make a decision? Any advice about using tags is appreciated. Thanks in advance:)

what to do with a 404 error with no equivalent page?

I don't want to 301 redirect to a page not similar to avoid a soft 404, should I just 410 the page and block crawl to save crawl budget?

How important are media filenames in SEO?

Hi! So I own a travel blog and I have photos in my posts where I did not change the filenames at all (e.g. 20200321_12345.jpg). But I did assign them alt descriptions.

Do you think changing the filenames will boost my blog's SEO performance? If I change the filenames at the media library, will they get unattached to the posts they are in (in which case I have to manually attach them again)?

Thanks very much!

Australian Content Agency/ Writers

Hey guys,

As you may have guessed I’m based in Australia, the down side for me is that most content agencies and freelancers price their work in USD.

With the constant sell off of AUD against USD my money is now worth significantly less when ordering content. Have any fellow aussies run into similar problems and can recommend a local based agency?

Google has been of little help in this realm as SEO services seem to be a little more bespoke here than the rest of the world.

Thank you in advance!

NAP, does a difference between Rd and Road matter?

I would think if they could be the same in all locations (like Road always being fully spelled out), they should. Before I recommend this to my boss though I want to make sure I'm not just making a recommendation on s hunch. Right now they have it as Rd in done places, and Road in others.

Is there a definitive answer to this?

Thanks!

URL indexed on GSC but not showing up on Google

- GSC says that it is indexed

- Doing an allintitle: exact page title gives no result

- Doing a site:myurl does show it though.

It's been nearly a month. Any clues? I can PM the URL too let me know

What's Your Golden Rule For SEO?

Some people say when you're writing content shoot for less competitive keywords, quality is more important than quantity, others say it's the opposite, backlinks are the most important, and etc... But what is it for you? If you could only give one advice based on your experience, what would it be?

Any good material to follow for building an Amazon affiliate site?

I'm building my first every Amazon affiliate site at the moment and I have 30 x 4000 words on average articles.

I'd like to follow some experts who have material out who are legitimately killing it.

Can you recommend anyone that fits this profile that maybe has a course out or something?

Anyone use a favicon different from their logo and have you ever been penalized by Google?

I'm been toying with how to increase my CTR and was curious if anyone uses an eye-catching favicon that isn't related to their brand. For example, I could use a check mark. It's entirely different from my logo, but it would probably lead to increased CTR. However, I have read that that Google could penalize someone for a favicon that violates their policies. The only examples I have found are where Google removed a Nazi swastika. Has anyone done something like this long term?

Here are their policies:

  • Both the homepage and favicon file must be crawlable by Google. Meaning, they can’t be blocked.
  • Your favicon must be a visual representation of your brand, as the point of a favicon is to help users identify your website when they look through SERPs.
  • Your favicon must be a multiple of a 48px square. So that means 48x48px, 96x96px, or 144x144px or larger if you’re so inclined. You can also submit a SVG file.
  • Any valid favicon file is acceptible, so long as it meets the sizing specifications outlined above. Google will take care of this, rescaling your image to 16x16px. Your responsibility is making sure that your file looks good at any resolution.
  • The favicon URL needs to be stable—meaning you can’t change your URL frequently.
  • Google will not display favicon containing inappropriate imagery like hate symbols and pornography.
  • If Google finds your favicon inappropriate it will replace the icon with a default favicon.

Doesn blogging benefit ranking for related pages?

Say you are a plumber and want to rank for several keywords like "plumber in city 123" etc. Would writing a weekly blog about jobs you did and problems you solved benefit your primary keyword?

Does publishing fresh content on a regular basis that is related to but not targeting your primary keyword, benefit those primary keywords?

Do the blog posts need internal links to the money pages to have a benefit or can simply using the same tags and related keywords help Google get s stronger impression that your website is about plumbing and rank you above others because of this?
