SEO Or Bust... The Big Commitment!!

A while back I spoke to you guys about how I landed my first client and things were beginning to look up. I've really found a love for the work I'm doing for my clients, and there's nothing better than seeing them happy with the results you give them. That mixed with the hours of online learning made me start to think that I could really do this as a career, especially if I spent 8 hours a day 5 days a week doing it like my retail job. It's for that reason that I've decided to do exactly that and pursue digital marketing full time. I've put my two week notice into my job, and in that time I plan on rededicating myself to learning by going over my online courses because it never hurts to touch up your skills. But once these two weeks are over that is it, and it'll be full time go mode. I'll keep you guys updated and I hope I have some great stories to tell you all.

Google Search Console stats - are these ok for a month old site? New to SEO

Hi,

I'm a backend developer and built a website recently. I started learning about SEO (I had the very basics) and this is a vast topic now that I'm finding out what to look for. I've got the stats from Google Search Console, but I'm not sure if the CTR or the impressions are decent. For reference, this is a job board launched in mid January. Data below is for last 7 days when it's been consistent and actually getting impressions.

Tips to rank higher as a freelancer? (odd scenario..)

This is an oddly specific request, but basically I am worried I will never be able to rank very high with just my name due to somebody with the same name. Another guy with my name was arrested in the past year and when searching for my name you find a flurry of articles about an "ex-police officer arrested for abusing an 11-year-old middle school girl". The story happened across the country, but obviously got a ton of press. The name of the town that it occurred in also just happens to be the same name of a town I am located near. Any ideas to somehow rank higher than this guy?

Medium vs Substack vs your own website

How do you guys incorporate sites like Medium and Substack into your SEO, if at all?

Does anybody see the advantage of reposting content on either of these platforms or is it just best to keep it all on your own site?

If one were able to create an audience via Medium or Substack more readily than on their own site, would there be value to that over SEO?

Are there any best practice ways to cross-post content across these different platforms from your own website?

Is it a good idea to separate pages for photography genres?

I hope this is OK to ask here.

I'm going to assume it would be more beneficial, but I want to ask before I do the extra work on my website..

I do maternity, newborn and family photography. They're kind of related, but at the same time could be separate entities.

On my home page I have the H1 set with "maternity and newborn." Right now I'm ranking 45-50 for that, but my site is just now 6 months old. I'm thinking I should target the genres separately and each have their own kind of "info" page instead of one whole info page talking about them all.

I live in a large metropolitan, but in a suburb so I have my city, the bigger city, and the state to use(since it's common for the state to be used here) on top of each genre to consider. I'm more concerned with just maternity and newborn though.

I'm trying to maximize each potential keyword spreading them out amongst H1 tags(on separate pages). I know only one H1 tag per page.

Is this overkill or just best to stick with targeting those keywords where I already have them(home, about, galleries, etc) and focus more on blogs?

Do the keywords also get enough targeting through other tags(h2, h3 ,p) to where I don't need to do the extra deconstruct and reconstruct of my site?

Impact of multiple FAQ Pages (+JsonLD) for different content on SEO

Hi there,

I'am currently working on a universal parcel tracking website.

For every carrier we support we have a dedicated site where the user can track his parcel. Additionally to the tracking functionality we answer the most common questions regarding the carrier and the tracking information they provide.

We try to answer questions like:

• Does usps deliver on saturdays?
• Why does my usps tracking information not update?

We already have this content on the page and I was thinking about adding the FAQ Section as structured jsonLD data to the page.

However we have about 600 carriers and I'am not quite sure on the impact this would have on our ranking if we add the structured data to every page.

Is this something we should do? Or is the FAQ section more of a one of thing for like ecommerce stores?

Companies from India ranking ahead of me with false locations

I do web design and I try to rank local for the surrounding cities. But I'm finding that a lot of companies from countries like India and such have acquired Google Business addresses in cities near me through apartments or co-working spaces. And they create pages that target the cities. A lot of them have learned SEO.

It's really difficult to compete with, because these guys work for 1/5th of what people in North America work for. And they give the impression that they're local when they're not. The people hiring them definitely think they're dealing with someone local.

Does Google do anything to penalize this? It's not possible for me to build $300 websites and pay $1800 in rent. Yet many of these people are ranking above me in my local area. And I know they're not from here.

Most these listings Google addresses are located in shady apartment buildings. I don't understand how they got verified on Google when I work from home and have to hide my address because it's not a store front business. It's like they pay someone to use their address. I'm positive they also buy Google Reviews, since many of the reviews are written in poor english and the dates are too close together.

Has anyone noticed tons of new crappy-domain Blogspot backlinks to their sites? Many of my websites are getting dozens a month since the start of the year. All low-quality, spam sites.

I feel like I should disavow the entire blogspot domain but I am loathe to mess with the disavow tool these days. Anyone else seen this?

Conflict between Google Keyword Planner and Ahrefs

Hello, everyone! I am learning to figure out some keywords. And I found that the volume of "blue heels" in GKP is "100k - 1000k" and 2.6 k in Ahrefs. I am very confused. Which should I believe in?

And I found the competition of a keyword is low in GKP, but the KD in Ahrefs is about 40 - 50. I don't know what I should do now.

Non-monthly SEO Pricing as a Freelancer

If you're getting started as a freelancer would it be an OK option to charge per tasks instead of going the monthly route?

Planning on taking on smaller businesses with bare bones type of websites going on

So an invoice could say"Technical On Page" for X amount, and maybe even list in the invoice what specifically was going to be done in regards to "Technical On Page"

Maybe they want to create and optimize a GMB profile as well so I'll add that in the invoice with a price.

Advice on using redirects when moving website from blogger to Google sites

Hi folks , I'm a small business owner , my organisation mainly povides support to NGOS and social issue organisations.

I'm in the process of switching my website from blogger to Google sites. I'm keeping the same domain but pointing it to sites rather than blogger.

I was wondering if you could give me some advice on the best way to treat the old site and redirects.

What are the best practices with how to treat the old blogger based

Should I

A) turn it off completely ? B) set blogger so that it can't be found on search engines ? C) use a meta refreshed redirect ?

I'm a bit concerned that meta refresh reddrects might make us be flagged for spam/ delisted.

(Blogger can't do 301 redirects , and we can't make the new URL structure match the old unfortunatelt)

For context , we don't really aim to generate cold leads or enquiries from search/our website or sell to the public. Basically we assume that our website is a backup reference point so that anyone who already knows about us can find us and read some more. It's not very important for people to be able to search for the sort of thing we do and find us. We mainly just want to make sure that people who search our company name can find us.

• we don't really anticipate that a lot of traffic will end up on our old site. We are small , but have been going for a few years. We mainly want o make sure anyone who ends up on the old site by mistake knows it's on old site and can find the new one.

Google traffic too high for a particular page

Since last couple of days, google organic traffic to particular page went from 500 users to 4K users per day.

This traffic to the page is unrelated to the products we sell does not bring any conversions, so we see the bounce above 90%. It makes me think at times i dont want traffic for page.

Multiple Errors and Warning in Ahref Site Audit Report

• I initially installed a newspaper/magazine-based theme.
• I used Yoast SEO for the Site map and then submitted the sitemap in Google Search Console for Index.
• Then I changed the theme to a blog-based theme.
• In Yoast SEO, excluded Categories and Tags from being indexed. Only Home, Post Page, Contact Us Page. I also blocked, Disclaimer, Privacy Policy, Terms & Conditions Pages from indexing.

So here I am, I run a fairly large online e commerce store, it turns over 6 figures annually and is quickly becoming the leader in its niche - I know we are missing out on growth as I’ve never done SEO but spend thousands on advertisement instead, my problem is I do not know the true price to avoid being scammed by some forex trader.

My budget would be around 3,500 GBP - So how much does SEO really cost and are there levels to it that I should know of? Is that not enough for what I would really need? Do I use an agency or an individual? I’m so lost!

Update Sitemap after site migration

I have a few doubts about the last mod info in a sitemap (which I haven't personally generated or created, I was only asked to crawl it after a site migration. The crawl of both the site and the sitemap didn't report any mistake so the 301s should be ok).

After the site migration, the URLs in the xml sitemap still have a few weeks ago as their last mod date. Is this something that can only be fixed manually? Should this be done before I submit the sitemap to GSC?

URL structure - Worth changing?

Is it worthwhile to change the URL structure for a local dentist in Las Vegas, for example, from:

to

Let's say they are on rank 10 but still got a lot of other optimization to go. Will changing the URL have any effect on ranking, except maybe an increase in CTR? Or is the drop in rankings at start simply not worth it?

Multi-service company losing out to single service 'specialists'

Hi

I work in a business that offers a number of property related services.

I have been doing some research on how well the business ranks in my local area SEO-wise and, as part of that, in the map pack.

In summary, single service companies regularly outrank us. Some using 'dirty' tactics, including - pretending they are based nearby but are using virtual offices, name spamming and (using GMB as one example) putting themselves down as a category they are not actually offering.

I just wondered if anyone else has had this challenge and what they had done to overcome this?

Do IBL and OBL matter while doing guest posts?

After doing the hard work of guests approaching I finalize a list of sites with good DA, Traffic and sent it to my boss but he said you did it wrong. I asked why?

well, here what he replied.

Not only DA and traffic matter you must look for the number of Inbound links(aka backlinks) and outbound links(aka external links).

If the number of OBL is greater than IBL then that site will pass less value because it already passed link juice to many other sites. So select sites with More IBL and fewer OBL links.

So, my question is does IBL and OBL matter?

1. If matters then why not we should consider No-follow OBL because No-follow does not pass any link juice.

ELI5: Please help a new blogger out

I have just started a blog, like two days ago started. Most places I have looked for advice illustrate the importance of SEO, so I have tried to familiarize myself with it.

The issue I'm coming across is that everything is over my head. I cannot grasp the basics to understand the more elevated or even regular topic areas of SEO. I have done a bunch of research in my topic area so I know kind of what people are looking for.

Ive searched this page and couldn't find anything similar (I apologize if this is already answered). Is there anyway that someone could explain the basics? (Meta-data, keyword, KPI, backlink, etc.)

Any recommendations for articles, books, or videos would also be super helpful

Where do I start,as an SEO noob?

My problem is that SEO as a subject is so full of SEO experts competing that I feel I can't trust the authority of the top search results! This is maybe silly, but I'd appreciate some pointers about what stuff I should learn about first. I am not against learning things myself, or finding a freelancer or an agency to help me, but I don't know who is going to be right for me and my budget.

I've had a few websites for my businesses over the last 20 years, and I have one in particular which has an e-commerce shop. I have just completed a spreadsheet with all my products and variations, and intend to rebuild the site from the ground up in wordpress so that it is fast, optimized, user-friendly and effective. The currently live version of the site brings in less than $100/month, and it is a niche product, with average sales around $8 (with some free products and some high-ticket items around $60-$100) We sell mostly downloadable products and a few physical ones, so we could scale up significantly without much difficulty in terms of infrastructure.

I have no idea how much money I should be spending just now to try and ensure that I do everything properly as I rebuild the site. I have no great idea about strategy - how to do keyword research effectively, how to write my URLs, titles, meta tags, image tags etc... Whether I should be focussed on new consistent content, or getting backlinks, or reviews, or spending on e.g. facebook ads or adwords. I don't know how competitive my market is for the keywords, or who my main competitors are, or examples of people doing it right in my industry. I don't know how competitive I am. I don't know the size of my potential market. All of these subjects seem relevant, but I have no way of prioritizing them!

I do have confidence in the quality and USP of my products. I have a reasonably performing mailing list of c.1300, and around 5k facebook likes. But I would like to scale things up to around 10x the size of the operation at the moment.

Where do I start?

Is Yoast SEO-plugin in WP 'enough'?

Im new to websites and SEO and im still learning alot all the time. I found the plugin Yoast which reads your post and then says Do this or do that, I like it alot. Its simple and makes you understand how SEO works

Howdy SEO gang.

Setting up The SEO Framework site map and the elementor library (all the client templates and global blocks) is set to index. This makes the site map longer than it should be.

Is it a best practice to set Elementor templates to noindex?

Weighing new business names and have a SEO question

I'm considering a name for a new business that I like a lot, but there's already a ton of hits for that phrase. Without getting too specific, I want to use the name of a cocktail, and of course there are tons of hits for that cocktail recipe (it's not margarita or anything that common). How hard would it be to rise to the top above sites like Martha Stewart and Knob Creek? The cocktail recipe is one page on their site, it would of course be the header on every page on my site. Do business names trump single pages in terms of rankings, assuming all the other SEO pieces are in place? Would I be struggling on the 3rd page as a small new company below a bunch of recipes?

Google is answering more and more queries in SERP features, and there’s no need to click a result when the answer’s right there. For eg: if I search “Full form of SEO” almost 70% of the searches are zero click. So, will it be a great loss for us even if we are targeting the right keywords.

Google not crawling my full sitemap index anymore.

I'm not sure what happened really. I double checked and the sitemap has valid syntax.

Out of the 180 or so URLs in the sitemap index, it started capturing only the first 66 when it was recrawled a week ago. (Previously it was seeing all the URLs)

I had it test the live URL, and that made it crawl again, but it's still only finding the first 66 URLs.

Any idea what could be going wrong?

Choosing an Optimized Theme for My WordPress Site

One year ago, I chose a simple random theme for my WordPress site. It isn't very optimized and I believe it's slowing the loading speed. I want to switch to another theme that is optimized for speed and SEO.

I am thinking of Astra. I read that it's built with speed in mind. What other options do I have?

I use shared hosting so I think theme builders, such as Divi or Elementor, would further slow my site.

I run an online boutique that sells makeup, haircare products, and even skincare products. Things have been going really well, and I actually was able to step away from my 9-5 job. A lot of this success I would contribute to a few online digital marketing course I bought in the past. They taught me a lot about social media and paid google ads, and this is where a lot of my success comes from, but I want to keep learning. Questions on repurposing large, pillar posts

Hi all - I have a question on re-using the text from large pillar posts (3000+ words).

Let's suppose I've written a post on apples talking about red, pink, green apples and how to grow them and cook them.

Can building backlinks on forums hurt my Off-page SEO and website overall?

Hey, I'm in the need for some SEO advice. I'm relevively knowledgeable of SEO but still have certain bits and pieces to learn.

Lets say I have an E-commerce site, and on that site I have some bitcoin products. So to build some niche backlinks I goto some different bitcoin forums and create some unique content which includes a link to one of the products.

Could this hurt my SEO? I've heard a lot of negative talk regarding forums, comments etc. If it's done right, can it be effective? If so, what would be the appropriate way to approach such a situation?

And yes, im currently in the process of creating some web 2.0s , I just figured posting content on specific high enough DA forums would be more time efficient.

Meta Tags bulk checking tool?

I'm looking for a tool that can check all of my websites pages and show previews of the meta tags / OG images for each page.

Something alongside metatags.io but with bulk capabilities, and without me having to paste manually all URLs.

Google search console not find all sitemaps in index

Ive submitted our sitemap index to the google search console, the index contains about 6000 sitemaps each contain about 1000 urls

However google is only finding the first sitemap inside the index, so it only 'see's' about 1000 urls when there should be over 6 million

Ive checked the xml structure many times and it is valid according to sitemaps.org and there are no errors visible on the google search console

has anyone found this issue with google search?

We're re-branding over the next month or so, everything stays the same product wise, it's just our current brand name / identity pigeon holes us, so a new look and name is in order, and therefore a new domain.

I've been tasked with helping out with the SEO side of things, but it's all new to me having only really worked in PPC previously, i understand bits and bobs but nothing more.

Having spent the past couple of days looking into it, as you're all well aware there is a hell of a lot to digest, from 301 redirects to external linking tools etc... but what I would like to know is what should be my main focus(es), given I'm not 100% sure what takes priority?

FYIs - we currently rank very well organically, only Amazon and eBay really rank above us, if ever, and they always should link to our products as we more or less have a monopoly on a lot of what we sell (although there are sellers / sites selling unlicensed products).

Delete woocommerce shop and start over with new niche

Hello, I hope all of you are doing great, I have made a woocommerce shop before 6 months and was learning, it was slow and I added many products that I don't want now, I rebuild it now with deffernt products and a lot of changes, so before I drop the old site and upload the new site to the same domain, What I have to do with old google search results?? 99% of the links will be broken!! I want to delete all the old data in google search and let google reindex it again. I want to start over fresh. I read somewhere about using URL Removals Tool in Google Search Console then upload the new sitemap. Is this right? Any suggestions?

Making An Agency Site

I've started to have more success in my SEO career and for the most part I really enjoy it; however, I still don't have an agency site. I live in a big city, so ranking this site would be a lot of hassle, and I don't think many people organically look for SEO companies. But I do know that having a website is a great way for people to interact with your business, and it's essentially having a business card online. Should I create an official agency site? and If I do is it worth the money and time to rank it?

Hey if local business doesn't work on physical location . But provide mobile services or home based services on thier specific mentioned area. 1.we should add his physical adress in the listing? (as he doesn't serve on that physical address. Only office there) 2. Ranking sudden spike up then back down

A new keyword I’m trying to rank for has been holding steady at rank 40 for a month. I’ve started building links and then saw a sudden spike up yesterday to rank 18.

After waking up I checked the rank again and it went back down to the 40 range it’s been sitting on for a month. So this keyword jumped up 22 spots and back down in the span of 24 hours.

Would this be considered a Google Dance? Is that even still a thing? I don’t know if I should see this as a good or bad sign. Thanks for the help

I'm using the FREE version of NitroPack.io - Is it bad for SEO?

Because they put a dofollow link on your homepage to their website, so not sure if that hurts your SEO in any way.

Sudden spike in organic traffic stumping me

Hi all,

I had a sudden spike in organic traffic to a particular blog page yesterday, and it has appeared to settle back down today. The spike is LARGE. This. page went from bringing in about 15-30 organic visitors a day to 17,000 yesterday and 900 today.While it is not unheard of for one page to get 17k organic visitors (it's a pretty well established site) it is very weird for this page in particular. I am trying to figure out exactly what happened here. I have checked the following and am stumped:

- Traffic source is organic (bots would be direct or referral from my understanding)
- Checked location of traffic for the past 2 days and there is no spike in traffic from a far away land
- There was no mention of this article on a popular site/ by an influencer
- Session duration is 39s, with 2.5 pages per session - if it were bots, the session duration would have been much lower
- Ahrefs does show me that yesterday, this page suddenly started ranking for 300 new keywords, however, these keywords are low volume and the ranking is 50+ so this wouldn't explain such a high increase.

I suspect this is bots, however, I can't find the telltale signs that it is. Does anyone have any other insight or advice on how to figure this out?

Social bookmarking sites worth it or not?

I have been using social bookmarking websites for backlinks and many different websites But suddenly all of those websites got updated and they have removed my profiles and a huge number of my backlinks got removed which has dropped my domain rating from 47 to 39 My questions is, is it still worth it to create backlinks from bookmarking websites or is it considered to be a black hat technique? Although backlinks got removed but the traffic or any of my major keywords didn’t get effected, please advise!

Hey all, I started a new job as a marketing analyst recently and my company is in the B2B SaaS industry.

Firstly, I am new to SEO. They are very SEO-focused, and specifically link building because that's what the owners built the company on. I have been tasked with researching new and current keywords and to determine if which are worth focusing our efforts on.

Issues with new hire

Need an outside opinion as I'm not sure if my expectations are too high or not.

We've recently hired a new business development manager for our SEO team. He interviewed well, answered the questions with what we were after, had experience with some big agencies, and his references were positive.

But now were experiencing a few problems. The sales opportunities he's pursuing have been poorly qualified and we seem increasingly unlikely to fall within their budget. One opportunity in particular has raised some red flags - a templated get rich quick, work your own hours site with duplicated layout and copy of a few hundred other sites. I'm starting to suspect that he's lied on his resume and used friends as references just to get the job, and now that he's here he's trying to pursue everything possible hoping that something will fall in his lap.

So here's my conundrum: if you're hiring someone who is experienced in not just sales but selling SEO should you expect them to understand how to qualify prospects and understand enough about SEO to detect these type of time wasters?

Members vs customers question

I'm in the process of getting a web page made. Trying to understand how you roll a website out that needs members to make you money and customers who view the page. The website obviously needs members before customers so the customers aren't looking at a blank website. Any ideas on the best way to go about this and also not draw customers away in the beginning because of no members.
