A client has several domains related to their industry since forever.
Historically, they had 20+ informational sites and commercial sites for the business, but pointing back to a main site as a way to generate business.
This was great back in the day, because they basically owned the front page.
Alas, Google eventually cracked down on this technique, and it has since become frowned upon and may hinder rankings.
I am curious. Right now, they have two sites. One advertising a specific service (A). The other (B), a bunch of services and their brand. But the company name is not part of the domain. In fact, the domain would better be used as an informational site.
I would like to transition the (B) commercial site towards an informational site. Not really selling services. But providing information about various things in the industry. At the same time, linking back to a new site.
I would create a new site C, that is completely branded. And actually sells the services.
Would this be feasible? Is it bad to link an informational site to a commercial site? It’s not like we are creating a whole bunch of websites.
I just want to bring a little more clarity between the information and the service. The information is useful alone. And if we can provide that information while pointing to our service, that would be amazing.
Thoughts?
