Tips for ranking in recruitment

Hi guys I've just recently been taken on to help boost the rankings of a healthcare company who want to promote their jobs directly. They use indeed too and I will get to that...

After doing some competitor analysis it looks like the whole first page of the SERPs is huge job sites like indeed etc. So my thought is that no matter how much I optimize the site, we're really going to struggle to outrank these huge sites. I saw one website that wasn't a job board on page one (and I could definitely work to outrank them) but the traffic they were getting was really negligible (maybe 2 hits for one keyword) as opposed to 42 from indeed which was in position one.

My question is has anyone managed to compete against these huge job boards? Or do you think my energy would be better spent doing a quick SEO overhaul of the site making sure everything is as it should (there are a few things that we definitely need to fix on there like meta's etc.) But beyond that focus primarily on improving rankings on Indeed so when people click the 1st result on Google (indeed)..we're there at the top of the indeed page for all to see. I don't want my client to have me spending months on SEO to rank in position 7 and only get dribs and drabs of traffic if you get me.

Any insight appreciated. I know recruitment can be suuuuper competitive with SEO.

P.S.. I'll also be ensuring we show up on Google for jobs too... Need to look into that futher

TY
