I was presented with a problem that I haven't had to deal with before. A colleague has a paid digital product and although they rank #1 in search for specific key terms for that product, almost every result under his are sites that have ripped off his product and are selling it for up to 95% off.
We're trying to come up with a solution to bump those sites off of search results. He's filed a DMCA takedown request and here are my other thoughts:
- Create business profiles that tend to rank well when searching for a product specific to the business such as BBB, FB, Twitter, LI, and Medium.
- Create a Medium post that details the product
- Create additional pages on his site such as a product reviews page, product faq page, etc. to hopefully rank above the other sites.
Any other ideas on how to combat this? Keep in mind, this site is purely advertised through paid ads and he hasn't optimized this site for SEO. Luckily, he ranks well for very specific key terms, but that's it.
