What impact does adding content to an old blog post have on rankings?

Hi all,

I was thinking of updating one of my older blog posts to have some new and relevant content to it. The general idea is to feature another tool in one of my "Top 10 X tools" blog post that I published a few months back.

What influence will that have on rankings? - assume that the new featured tool is relevant to the blog post and the outbound link will take users to a high authority website.
