How do you approach reporting conversions from Organic Search?

I run inbound for a few clients and have always had conflicting feelings about “taking credit” for all leads associated with Organic Search. As we all know, Organic could be both branded search terms as well as generic keywords. Obviously if I get the company ranking for a competitive keyword and see lead entrances on inner pages, that’s great and I could try to highlight that in my reporting. But what about if you’re working on a semi-well known brand that’s getting a good amount of Organic leads which first landed on your homepage as well? How does the SEO community generally deal with taking credit for Organic Search leads? Do you try to differentiate between branded search and keywords? I ask because I know in the PPC world that there’s an on going discussion about buying traffic for branded keywords to help lower your overall cost per conversion to report on a blended CPL/CAC and some see that as disingenuous while others fully depend on it in competitive industries.

Thanks!
