Is it duplicate content when I don't redirect the www to non-www, but I set the non-www in my search console?

What I learned is, that I have three options to let google know which version (www or non-www) is the right one.

1. 301 redirect
2. search console
3. canonical

Is that true or am I suffering duplicate content when I don't redirect from www to non-www?
