It seems that after the medic algorithm update Google highly rewards high authority domains first, followed by lower authority domains. Which is understandable.
But the thing is that it also returns completely irrelevant pages from high authority domains and doesn't show relevant pages from lower authority domains even on page 10 in SERP.
More so, when it displays pages from lower DA domains, instead of showing a relevant page that may have a lower PA, it shows a completely irrelevant page with a completely irrelevant title because this PA is higher than the other one, from the same domain.
How does this even make sense? Imagine you go to a library to read sci-fi books. You come to the sci-fi section only to find that it has top 10 books on sci-fi and the rest are top 10 romance, top 10 drama, adventure etc because, apparently, the librarian thinks those books are ranked higher so they must be displayed. And no matter how hard you try, the section simply doesn't store relevant sci-fi books from lesser known authors. At. All. Makes no sense, right?
So why would Google chose to show irrelevant higher ranked pages (for instance, I search for gardening an apple tree and it would return me a page on building a table because the page has a 1 instance of "apple" on it taken completely out of context) from either higher or lower ranked domains instead of showing pages that may or may not have enough "deserving" content? I am seriously perplexed.
I notice that when I search now, by page 3 the results are mostly just a bunch of pages from high authority domains that don't even begin to answer my question. And by page 6 it's just completely irrelevant junk.
This new algo completely killed my website traffic because Google now tends to return a few pages from my website for a number of irrelevant search results when it used to return relevant pages before.
But most importantly, if Google doesn't even attempt to display less linked pages, how can anyone ever link to those pages if no one knows they even exist. Not every page can be unique, not every page can go viral with the help of social media. Simple as that. Same in real life, most of the businesses compete with each other by selling the same or similar items.
