Client's Site Isn't Among The Top 100 Rankings for Keywords

Hello guys.

So I have a client who asked me to work on his site's content SEO. Nothing technical or anything.

He said his site isn't ranking well so I did some keyword research for his niche and checked his site's ranking for the top 10 keywords. To my surprise, his site is not ranked for any of the keywords I used.

I am baffled.

Is this normal?

Might it be a technical issue? When I search for his site, it shows up. 252 results to be exact.

Is there a way I can get him to the top 100?
