Does the canonical link guarantee the indication of the original article or will Google respond to the publication date in the first place?

For example, I published an article on Medium and then moved it to a personal blog on WordPress, and in Medium, I added a canonical blog link on WordPress. What platform will Google show in priority? Medium, because the publication date is earlier or WordPress because Medium specified the canonical link?
