I'm not an SEO expert by any stretch, just a guy with a Wordpress website that's been around since 2011.
My site experienced a sudden drop in traffic and rankings starting on May 6 (about 20%). I've been researching possible causes by looking at GA, Search Console, and my plugins.
TL;DR - yeah, there was a google algorithm update around that same time but there was also a Yoast update that some users reported trouble with too (Yoast 14. I didn't use Yoast 14.0 since I have a natural aversion to use any software with a "x.0" revision, I waited till 14.0.7. I'm now on 14.1).
So, my questions:
-
According to Google Analytics traffic dropped from other major engines around the same time (Yahoo -20%, Bing -10%. Interesting Duck Duck Go went up a tiny bit). Do other search engines follow Google updates with their own? If not that would tend to suggest to me that Yoast has something to do with it but I'm no SEO guru...).
-
Would migrating to a different SEO plugin have any significant effect, or has the damage been done? I'm not married to Yoast but I've been too lazy to do anything about it until now (I'll probably migrate to The SEO Framework plugin at some point soon).
-
I've been updating and re-optimizing my most popular and most revenue-generating pages then submitting them for re-indexing on Google Search Console. Anything else I can/should do?
Thanks for your help guys & gals....
