A couple of months ago, I started a website. Wrote tons of content targeting low-comp keywords. But a few days ago, as I was checking the 'links' section of search console, I noticed something weird.
I had a bunch of external links coming from an IP address (so the url looked like xx.xx.xx.xx). When I clicked on the link to visit this website, I was surprised to see my own website appearing. The only thing that was different was that the browser didn't say my website's name, it just said my website's ip address.
So basically, Google thinks that my ip address and my website are two different entities. They both display exactly the same content, but they are two different sites for the big G.
To fix this, I did everything that the internet suggested. I checked the A record multiple times on my DNS provider (And it's not like the A record didn't work, as typing in my domain name was still taking me to my website). I removed cloudflare. I switched my nameservers. Nothing changed.
And there's literally only one forum post on stackexchange where a guy was having this same issue. It's 8 years old, and it's unanswered.
So, those of you out there who have a lot of experience with getting a website up and running, where do you think the problem lies?
By the way, here's some more information that might be useful.
When you usually type in an IP address in the search bar on your browser, it automatically switches to the domain name once the page finishes loading. This is NOT happening with my website(s?).
When I add a new post, it gets updated on both the ip address only site and my actual site. The links from the actual site count as internal links while the ones from the ip address only site are counted as external links.
This website is hosted on AWS. I have hosted multiple sites on AWS before and this was never an issue, so I don't think it's their fault.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, because I am pretty sure I am losing hair over this.
