Ranking for keywords that are not included in any content.

I'm having a strange issue here.

I just started up my site properly, about 2 months ago. I'm seeing changes in the right keywords we want to rank for very slowly as we are pushing out more and more content, and trying to generate backlinks, but we're also starting to rank for keywords completely unrelated to our industry.
These keyphrases are not included in any of our cornerstone content or blog posts.

For example, let's say we run a web hosting company, but we're starting to rank for words to do with cricket bats such as 'kookaburra bat' and so forth? It's odd. We don't include this keyword that we're ranking for anywhere.
Does anyone know why this happens?
