Can I set a new "publish date" even if the change in content was small?

Hello,

I don't have an option to set an "updated" or "modified" date in my WordPress theme, however, I'd still like my readers (and Google) to know that the content was updated.

Today I added few paragraphs to my existing post (5% of total content or so). Can I set a new "publish date" and in the beginning of article add something like: "Update: We updated this article in April 2020 to include an extra tip for ..."?

What do you think?
