Getting backlinks from another site I own

Hi all,

I've had this question in my head for a while and I can't figure out if it's a good idea or not.

I own a fairly big gaming website, it gets around 6k users per day. I've recently started a small blog on design and coding which is slowly growing.

Would it be a good idea to link my blog in the footer of my gaming site despite them being two different arguments?

Would doing this help the smaller site or would it do the opposite?
