International SEO: Combining two sites into one and changing currencies with JavaScript

I have a client with two sites (.co.nz and .com.au). They want to create a new site (just .com) with a currency changer that switches you between Australian dollars and NZ dollars.

I'm concerned that we are going to lose visibility on the .co.nz site, because the default is AUD. The currency changes the content on the page with JS (also changes product schema).

Is there a correct way to make a migration like this? Or should it generally be avoided?

EDIT: The URLs will not change. They do have a presence in NZ, but not as big as Australia
