SEO tips for an intern?

I've been tasked with trying to implement and improve SEO operations for the company I intern at. It's a subsidiary of a F500 company. They use Wordpress and currently have the Yoast SEO plugin as their default. The company is a specialized product(you search for this product if you have knowledge of it).

Ultimately, this isn't a priority. But I want to make a great impression and help(and prove I'm not completely useless). So I've created a goal. I think I want to get one(1) page to rank on the first or second page of results for a somewhat competitive keyword.

I've read a lot of documentation(MOZ, HubSpot, Yoast) and I've explored some alternatives (SEO framework). Do you have any tips to help out an intern get pages ranked higher?

I was thinking that maybe the company can increase the length of their posts and add high-quality diagrams to help educate readers since they have very recently started a thought-leadership initiative and launched a blog. They only have two(2) blog posts so far.

Other than having specific keywords and synonyms in title, metadesc, first paragraph, imageUrls, and web url, are there any other organic tips to help get these webpages ranked?
