Semrush toxic backlink tool - trustworthy?

Hi there. Long time reader but my first topic. (I just love this subreddit.)

Situation: Working for an industrial metalworking company with customers mostly in a range of 300 km (automotive, etc.). Ranking is fine within that range with some low traffic keywords constantly driving a wild rollercoaster. Slowly ranking nationwide. It´s a moderate difficulty niche I´d say.

We got some backlinks from an industrial catalog similar to yellow pages, providing backlinks from different domains for different languages/countries. Ok, I´ll just name it: europages. Pretty much recommended for several industries / niches by some seo sites. Semrush gives these backlinks a toxicity rating of around 75. Deep red.

How does Semrush determine the toxicity level? Shall I relax and just white label? If Semrush is this wrong in determining the toxicity level, isnt it kind of pointless? I know, most data of any seo tool has to be taken with a grain of salt. But being this wrong is quite the opposite of being helpful. How am I supposed to handle the semrush backlink tool if I cant trust it?

Or is semrush not wrong about the toxicity? How would I tell?

These backlinks are longer there than i work for the company, several years. There are no statistics I could trust or put into context regarding this. The site has changed several times, backlinks have been added/removed etc. It´s hard to determine the impact of these backlinks in hindsight.

I would very appreciate to read some opinions by my favourite seo comunity about this. Thanks in advance.
