"This article was updated in [Enter date here]"

I've recently seen this written at the top of every blog post by a competitor (just before the actual body text):

"This article was updated in [April 2020]"

I'm sure this would improve CTR, especially if you include it in the meta description. But I was wondering if this has any effect on rankings.

I know that Google's algorithm would already know the last date it was updated, but would this sentence influence the algorithm in any way?

What do you guys think?

Thanks,

Adam.
